A/UX 2.0 Demonstration

I came across this demo via reddit recently.  Before Apple bought NeXT to bring us OS X, Apple had A/UX (Apple Unix) which ran on classic macs (I think before System 7).  In my early days on the Internet I came across A/UX 3.0 installation discs (which I am pretty sure I've backed up somewhere).  I wonder if I can get a Basilisk instance of this running...

Back on the Mac!

Well, to be fair, I was never gone, but my "daily driver" for the past 3 years (during the early days of COVID) has been an aging Dell Optiplex 9010, which was a hand-me-down. When my work-issued Surface Pro 3 died an untimely death in 2017 (and wasn't replaced), I refurbished the Optiplex which I had saved in our equipment closet for just such an emergency occasion. The original use case was

Review: Dogfight: How Apple and Google Went to War and Started a Revolution

Dogfight: How Apple and Google Went to War and Started a Revolution by Fred Vogelstein My rating: 3 of 5 stars Not a bad book.  Having just finished "The One Device: The Secret History of the iPhone" which only deals with the development of the iPhone, this book was both shorter and covered both Apple and Google.  As such, I think this book plays a bit

The MacPocket

Another concept from Reddit (or somewhere).  This one is a PDA version of the Mac, if done in 1984. I love the QWERTY keyboard and the trackball.  Reminds me a lot of Apple x Blackberry. The battery would probably need to be huge...

The MacPhone

I came across this concept on Reddit (I think) a while back.  It's basically a "what if" Apple had made some sort of phone out of MacOS back in the day of the Mac Plus. Fun concept to play around with, but I really doubt that the size would be that small.  The battery alone would probably require a backpack.

MacPhone concept

I came across this old MacPhone concept.  I really do love these pieces of Retro Futurism because they remind me a bit of what inspired us to get to where we are now.  This reminds me a bit of Cisco VoIP phones that one might see these days in offices.

Juiced.GS to be acquired by Microsoft

Well, here's the first April Fools joke today.  This comes from the web-based magazine Juiced.GS, a magazine that writes about the Apple ][ GS.  Apparently it's 1998 and it's being acquired by Micro$oft ;-)A bit of copy/paste from the email I read this morning:APRIL 1, 2022 — LEOMINSTER, MA — Microsoft, hot on the heels of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, has announced

Apple VideoPad II

Well, this piece of Apple history is going up for auction, it's not something I had even heard of prior to this week!  The Verge reported that an auction is taking place soon for a rare prototype of a tablet/communicator that Steve Jobs scrapped back in the 90s.  The Verge writes that:Developed between 1993 and 1995 with VideoPad 1 and 3 (the only two examples shown to the public),

iPod - reimagined

I came across this on Reddit a while back.  I still miss my iPod classic.  It had such a great user interface, you could easily just play any sort of song you wanted, and the beauty of it was that the clickwheel model allowed you to have one-hand control of the device without even looking at it, so you could focus on driving.  This reimagined UI for the iPod Classic should definitely

New Mac Pro...giant price tag!

One of my favorite things to do when I was in college (and following an Apple event) was to head to the apple store online and spec out the most recent announcement with everything spec'ed out to the max.  I used to do this with any tower model, starting back in 1997 when I first started looking at the latest and greatest (and my Performa 615CD, with a 68040 processor was rapidly aging).Back then
