Agents of Yesterday official trailer
Wednesday, Jun 29 2016, 01:30 complaint, Entertainment, Games, MMORPG, online, StarTrek, trailer, video games, VideoGames, youtube PermalinkI was not convinced that I would be starting up a new character for this expansion, but after this trailer I am pumped! I may just create a new UFP character, do the faction specific missions, and then just use DOFF missions to level up to level 60. I might even skip most missions that I've done (at least) 4 times already. I guess this character falls into the tertiary category because I really don't see myself grinding for reputation gear for anyone but my main character at this point. I'll grind the reputation (since I can get reputation sponsorship tokens), but gear will be something I either craft, buy from the exchange, or get from missions (like the Kobali set). It's no fun grinding. My Delta recruit and Temporal Agent won't be playing "space Barbie" since it's a lot of grinding to get the Risa and Winter gear for all characters. Blerg.

Now that's some fallout!
Monday, Jun 27 2016, 11:48 audio drama, audiobooks, axanar, Facebook, FanFilm, legal, StarTrek, youtube PermalinkLate last week CBS and Paramount put forth official guidelines for Fan Films using Star Trek as their basis. There was the usual firestorm on the forums facebook on his in the various Star Trek fan film communities. This seems to have had a really huge chilling effect on all current fan film productions, including audio dramas. I chose to not really participate in this discussion because I think that there's probably going to be further kerfuffles in this whole sorted issue.
On Sunday I came across the aftermath page of AxaMonitor (which keeps track of the legal issues between CBS/Paramount and the Axanar folks) which has started to list productions that have either suspended their productions either temporarily or indefinitely. It's too bad, because some series, like Star Trek Outpost were really good audio dramas! I wonder if these types of cultural productions will be lost to time now since, I expect, that they will be coming off YouTube and their respective servers.
Such a shame. We've gone from a vibrant community to almost nothing. That said, I am curious to see how Renegades turns it around and makes a non star trek series out of their star trek series.

Brexit a reality?
Saturday, Jun 25 2016, 02:00 armchair-commentary, europe, politics, voting PermalinkIt amazes me that voters regret their vote on this. I could say something snarky about an informed voter populace, but I won't. All I can do is shake my head at them...
Instead, I will share a meme that made me laugh...
As a side note, I do wonder if there will be any "takebacksies" with this thing, since the vote to exit the EU isn't something that goes into effect right away.

Australia, Canada, Japan, and Germany - Music this week
Friday, Jun 24 2016, 03:00 #FridayMusic, Entertainment, Music, music video, youtube PermalinkIn the quest to keep up to date with new music - this week I went with the charts for Australia, Canada, Japan, and Germany
Meghan Trainor - Me Too
#1 in Australia
Verdict: upbeat and cheeky. I like it!

Verdict: upbeat and cheeky. I like it!
Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners - This Girl
#1 in Germany
Verdict: Reminds me a lot of early 2000s music that I listened to (or maybe it's just German music...). Either way - I like it! It's got a good beat, despite its mellowness.
安室奈美恵 (Namie Amuro) -「Mint」-short ver.-
#8 in Japan
Verdict: Seems pretty hard to find the top songs in music video form from Japan. Oh well, it was a good opportunity to get re-introduced to Namie Amuro since I haven't heard one of her songs in ages (early 2000s?) I liked this song. Need to find a place to listen to japanese pop music ;-)
Sia - Cheap Thrills (feat. Sean Paul)
#1 in Canada
Verdict: I was surprised to have actually heard this song before (maybe it was promoted on a TV show I watch or something). Not bad.
That's all for this week in terms of billboard exploration. Any non-English language music you'd recommend?

Brexit or Bremain?
Wednesday, Jun 22 2016, 16:30 europe, Humor, JohnOliver, news, youtube PermalinkWell, the Brexit vs Bremain (the later being my own invention) voting is upon us soon for people in the UK, so here's a video for you to watch before you head to the polls.
That said, I am constantly amazed how similar the US is to the UK. We are our parents kids sometimes...

Star Trek Bridge Crew - pretty cool!
Wednesday, Jun 22 2016, 02:00 E3, Entertainment, StarTrek, trailer, video games, VideoGames, VirtualReality, VR PermalinkI was not expecting a game like this from UbiSoft (and, what the heck? is this blog turning into star trek all the time?!). In any case, this game seems quite interesting in terms of what it does with virtual reality. Also seeing Star Trek Alumni getting into the game and seeing their enthusiasm about this is pretty infectious ;-)
I tend to be more of a solo player, even within MMOs (unless I have to PUG a PvP for some gear or points or something), so a game like this would be pretty tough to play. I am wondering what the AI is like. Would you be able to play this as single player and spout out commands to the computer (or console) and have the AI take care of things for you for those specific duty stations?
