Sour grapes, gamer cat!
I agree that the VR stuff costs a lot of money, but given a compelling game, and a compelling price, I'd play those games :-). From last week's gamer cat comic.
MBA-speak, with John Oliver
Seems like a good week starts with John Olive and Last Week Tonight. I've queued up the video to the part that I found most funny (Dumbo Heights!!!), but the rest of the video is definitely worth a watch.

Babar married his cousin?!
This past weekend's last week tonight (on the topic of the upcoming french elections) was pretty awesome. Love the film noir ending ;-). I didn't remember that Babar married his cousin...

Someone needs to have Trek time travel and do fast food...but these days that might just be free product placement...Advertising ruins everything! :-) (original archive here)
I completely forgot to have a look at ThinkGeek's April Fool's lineup. Usually some of their April Fool's products make it to production (and some are actually just jokes). I picked three of my favorites. The Hot Pockets burrito sleeping bag. I picked this (even though I don't particularly find Hot Pockets all that appetizing) because I think that there are enough people who want
The one that got me...
Hulu "Hu" video shortening service was an April fool's joke that got me. It showed up before April fool's (maybe it was 4/1 somewhere when I saw it), and my reaction was "NOPE! not going this sh*t! what kind of product is this?"A day later... I realized it was a joke...
Of Gnomes and Pets
Two April fool's products which I think were particularly well done:1. Google Gnome (modeled after Google Home, but for outdoors) 2. Alexa Pet Translator
The artisanal sound system
When I logged into Star Trek Online I heard a bunch or BLIM, BLORP, SWOOOOSH sounds. I thought Q was at it again. Well, it turns out that it was just the new artisanal sonification system :p (Happy April Fools)
Sev Trek: Strong language
I was getting some Snakes on a Plane thoughts with this one " I have had it with these monkey fighting snakes on this Monday through Friday plane!" ;-)(original archive here)

Sev Trek: Mindmelding with whales
Who knew you could mind-meld with a whale... (original archive here)
Joining the Breach
The Breach came back as an event queue in Star Trek Online last week. This comic sums up exactly how I felt about it. Although to be honest, it's much shorter, and the rewards seem better as compared to the original Breach queue, and I need to get enough Lukari marks to finish off that reputation... (original here)
Somehow I got on the White House's mailing list (must have been some petition I signed at some point), and now I get spam like this. I guess the White House is seriously pushing their new reality show "Presidential", but it faces steep prime-time competition from ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, and El Rey. I think Sharnado probably does better than this new reality show ;-)
Sev Trek: The Voyeur Home
Hey, it's that time-traveling movie about saving the whales... :-) (original archive here)

Gaming with cats...
A little found humor this week from Gamercat. Describes perfectly my gameplay while Ezio (my cat) is around...
Five Star Review
A little humor from this weekend's SNL.The thing was pretty funny, but I really disliked the lack of attention to detail. Petros (πέτρος) is a Greek name, whereas if they were going for Russian - which I think they were based on the accent that the Uber driver had - the name should have been Piotr (Пётр).

4k pixel goodness!
I really don't get the whole craze around the NES classic. I never had an NES (but I've played games on it). I've played enough games on emulators, and granted the keyboard isn't as satisfying as a gamepad, if I felt like playing those games more often I'd go the Sweets route (orange cat here) - just get the original console and a CRT ;-)
Jurassic Trek: Slow Motion Approach, part deux
More poking fun at the intro of the motion picture(original archive here)
Jurassic Trek: Slow motion blackboax
Motion picture innovations (along with the disco inpired uniforms), they had this thing that looked like a giant belt buckle. Seems like a technology fannie-pack (in the American sense of the word) to me :)(original archive here)

So, from today's news, the department of transportation is apologizing for an error in highway signage:From the local news source (just in case the link goes dead in the future):MassDOT apologized to drivers, tourists, and locals Monday for the misprinted sign, which read “Cod Cape” instead of “Cape

I don't know if this technically counts as a song...but it's got a beat, and it's got words...so I guess it might be one? This was discovered while watching @midnight (a comedy web-culture show) this morning. Japan (?)PPAP ペンパイナッポーアッポーペン「ロング」バージョン by PIKOTARO(ピコ太郎)Verdict: No words are sufficient to describe this... just "LOL" I guess?
Jurassic Trek: Oath of Celibacy
We've now moved on to the Movie-Era TOS comic strips. This on comes from the Motion Picture, which is parodied as "the slow motion picture". Commentary on this is interesting. I remember watching the motion picture and I found it odd that they needed to mention the oath of celibacy - It is the future, and starfleet is a military organization (in some part) - why bother? :-/(original
Jurassic Trek files: Synonyms for death
This comic strip of Jurassic Trek makes fun of the (time honored?) trope of killing off the red shirt ;-) Pretty fitting for this to be the last strip in the TOS. Starting next week, TOS movie-based comics ;-)(original archive here)

Linguistics humor - phonemes
This past week I was looking on the web for interesting news, research, and funny humor, relating to language and linguistics for my department's social media presence (here, here, and here are some places - if you are interested). What's next for the iPhone?
So... this week Apple announced the iPhone 7, and due to their "courageous" stance (barf! seriously Phil! Barf!) they removed the headphone jack. Not courage at all - just making one more thing obsolete, or so you hope. Now, granted, in my day to day use of my phone I use my motorola S305 bluetooth headphones, so I personally won't be missing the jack (unless I am flying and I can't

Wednesday, Aug 3 2016 16:09 | achievements, comics, Entertainment, gamercat, Humor, video games, VideoGames, XBOX
A little gamercat humor for you :-). While playing Star Trek Online I don't often think of achievements (since my achievements/medals aren't visible anywhere). This past week though I started playing Bully again on my xbox and I started wondering what achievements exist, and what I need to do to get them :-)
CEASE And DESIST: A Star Trek Fan Production
ROFL! This is pretty funny ;-) I saw it muted and it seemed dumb, but with the audio on it's pretty funny :-) Reminds me a bit of the Axanar parody a month or so ago back.

This comic strip of Jurassic Trek makes fun of the killing off of the original series after 3 seasons. I know that this is meant to be a humorous news show, but this just is capitalist douchebaggery at its finest. If a company is writing off their debt, that should be it. It should not be resold (with personal identifying information) to just anyone who can create a debt buying company.

Monday, Mar 21 2016 03:30 | commercials, Entertainment, Humor, Japan, mythbusters, physics, Television, youtube
A while back I (and others) had seen this commercial on the internet which basically shows a couple of engineers (of the mythbusters kind - very unconventional ;-) ) making friend shrimp by blowing shrimp out of an air cannon into batter, breadcrumbs, and over a flame. Then, they enjoy some nice fried shrimp. This seemed implausible, but the mythbusters in their final season tackled it.

Ghostbusters 2016 trailer looks great! :)

This comic strip of Jurassic Trek makes fun of the Vulcan neck pinch...although my favorite one of all time is still in Spaceballs: The Movie :-)(original archive here)
More humor... star trek Xtreme!
I was listening to Earl Grey, one of the Trek.fm podcasts, this past week, and the topic of discussion was about a fictions scenario, a what if they had made an animated series out of Star Trek: The Next Generation in the 90s once the live action series was off the air. It was a pretty funny episode to listen to, especially if you've seen the mess that is Star Trek the animated series...well...and
