Jurassic Trek: Slow motion blackboax

Jurassic Trek: Slow motion approach
Ah yes...that long...long...long intro scene in the motion picture. Good fanboyism in the day, but seriously - too long!(original archive here)
Jurassic Trek: Oath of Celibacy
We've now moved on to the Movie-Era TOS comic strips. This on comes from the Motion Picture, which is parodied as "the slow motion picture". Commentary on this is interesting. I remember watching the motion picture and I found it odd that they needed to mention the oath of celibacy - It is the future, and starfleet is a military organization (in some part) - why bother? :-/(original

Year end review of books
Saturday, Dec 19 2015 06:00 | audiobooks, Books, Education, Entertainment, Games, GearsOfWar, SciFi, Social Networks, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames, XBOX
While we still have a few more weeks left in 2015, and I probably will finish one more book (the one I have in progress and listening to during my commutes these days), this is a mostly accurate view of my 2015 reading list. One year I made my goal to read 30 books in a year - failed it. Since then I've decided to keep it simple and focus on reading a book a month. If I go over that

Just caught this on one of my facebook feeds - a trailer for the sequel to Independence Day. This looks like a pretty fantastic sci-fi film (and I hope it's a great sequel). SevTrek: Jurassic Trek Introduction
With the end of enterforaprize, the next SevTrek in the SevTrek chronology is Jurassic Trek - a spoof of The Original Series. Presenting the crew of Jurassic Trek (original source):Captain Gym QuirkThe typical 60's TV man. Butt kicking, womanizing and wearer of shirts that would come off at the slightest provocation. Although Jurassic Trek only lasted 3 years, some say if Quirk had got through
Sev Trek: Design your alien
One of the things I came across while looking for Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comics was this call for suggesting aliens to create for the comic series (half-tribble half-klingon?)
Well...I guess it's adieu to Defiance and Dominion
Sunday, Oct 25 2015 04:00 | adieu, Defiance, Dominion, Entertainment, MMORPG, SciFi, Stargate, supernatural, Television
Awwww, nuts!As I was browsing my RSS feeds the other day I came across a news story that reported that both Defiance and Dominion, both SyFy channel series, have been cancelled! Come on Syfy! First Stargate, now this? ;-) What do you need more airtime for sharnados? LOL.Spoilers ahead -So, Dominion only got two seasons. The show was based, sort of, around the notions of the movie Legion,
Sev Trek: Le Directive Prime-Time
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic is actually the last one I could find on the web. This one is in French. The great thing about Sev Trek is that even though the original was in English (I think the creator is Australian), there was an active community that translated the materials to French and German predominantly, however I think I came across some Russian, Czech, Finnish,
Star Trek Horizon, full trailer (pretty interesting)
Sometimes with fan productions you don't know if (and when) they run out of steam and something never materializes. I had put Star Trek Horizon on the back burner (not sure if it had lost steam), but they recently released a full length trailer which looks pretty amazing!
woah! What a season finale for continuum!
Sunday, Oct 18 2015 08:52 | adieu, Books, continuum, DrWho, Entertainment, fiction, finale, SciFi, StarTrek, Television
Last week I was catching up with Continuum, a Canadian science fiction show about a future cop that finds her way to present-day Vancouver. What I didn't realize is that this was the final season, and I was actually watching the final episode, which for once was refreshing to not know what was coming. (yes, spoilers ahead). Stop reading, and go see this series. It's worth watching. With the TV
Sev Trek: One of the few Malcolm Reed parodies
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic is one of the few Malcolm Reed parodies. Not bad :-)
A bullet for a badman!

Jackleg JoeIt's been a while since I wrote about Defiance. At last writing I was at an EGO rating of about 200, which apparently was a little problematic for beating Jackleg Joe, the boss of the last mission or Marin called Bullet for a Badman (which apparently is a Western movie title). In this mission I was stuck by not having enough capability to inflict damage on the enemies, so off I went
Sev Trek: Making fun of catsuits #2
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of catsuits, again. Seems like the readers of the comic strip had fun with this one.
Star Trek Timelines
Monday, Oct 5 2015 04:30 | Android, Games, iPad, SciFi, StarTrek, Video, video games, VideoGames, youtube
I came across this video introducing Star Trek Timelines. This seems like a pretty interesting game, which is also developed locally in Massachusetts. This seems to be a mobile game (and from the graphics it looks pretty great!). Wonder if my aging iPad 2 will run it ;-)
Sev Trek: Damned catsuits
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of catsuits on female characters. I didn't really think a lot about this when the series were airing, but on my most recent rewatches I've often thought "WTF?!" Why do Troy, Seven of Nine, and T'Pol have regular uniforms? (Haven't seen DS9 recently). Hopefully the next series will do away with the catsuit.
End of the Iconian War
Tuesday, Sep 29 2015 04:00 | Games, MMORPG, online, SciFi, Stargate, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
Well, the end of the Iconian War is upon us! The story arc that started with New Romulus a couple of years ago is now seeing its conclusion. During this arc we've explored ruins under New Romulus, we've discovered Dyson Spheres (two of them, in-fact) we've fought the Elachi, the Hirogen, the Undine, the Voth,... and the Iconians (wow, that's a lot of people to fight), and we've
Sev Trek: To Sev where no one has Seved before
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of....repetition, and burned out writers by the time they got to start with the Enterprise series. I guess for the next Trek series we shouldn't do yet another enterprise.
Sev Trek: Human smell and the nose pinch
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic makes a little joke about the Vulcan neck pinch. Curious how we didn't hear about how bad humans smell to vulcans after a few episodes...
Falling Skies Season Finale
It's hard to believe that the show Falling Skies has been on the air for 5 years. I guess this is what happens when a show is on in the summer and it only has 12 or 13 episodes per season - time flies! Even so, plot-wise, it seems like the finale to this show was really rushed and it seemed quite anticlimactic. There are spoilers in this, so if you haven't watched it go watch the
adieu, Star Trek Futures
Capt. Rachael GarrettIt seems like one of the fan films that I've been waiting to hear more about, Star Trek Futures, has called it quits. Too bad, because the story concept, and the era, seemed quite interesting. The story would have taken place on the Enterprise NCC 1701-C, in the JJ-verse, and it would center around Beverly and Wesley Crusher, and his father Jack Crusher who is not dead in
Sev Trek: Why did humans not explore the cosmos?
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of why the Vulcans, errr, sorry, the Velcrons prevented Humans from exploring the cosmos for such a long time.
Sev Trek: Porthos and Alien Substances
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of Porthos. The topic of where Porthos goes to the bathroom was also something discussed on MacOSX.com, from what I remember.
Delta Rising | Done again!
Tuesday, Sep 1 2015 04:30 | Entertainment, Games, MMORPG, online, SciFi, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
Eris EzriI just completed Delta Rising again, this time on my Delta Recruit (Fleet Admiral Eris Ezri). I wasn't quite sure I'd make it all the way here with Eris Ezri, but somehow having a character this close to the current story-line and not being there seemed like a waste. For those curious, I was going to make Eris Ezris be a half Vorta, half Trill, liberated Bork (hence the name), but that
Star Trek Renegades, episode 1 is out!
After the long wait, the first episode of Star Trek Renegades is out! Since it's an hour and a half pilot it should probably be considered episodes 1 and 2, but whatever :-) I originally expected this to be out last December, but it seems that the deadlines kept falling back.I actually have not seen the finished episode yet. I was a backer of the project so I got a link to the pre-final
Sev: Andorian Antennae
Thursday, Aug 27 2015 05:00 | comics, Entertainment, Games, Humor, MMORPG, online, SciFi, Sev, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of Andorians and their Antennae. Andorians were actually one of my favorite species, as is evident from my Star Trek Online character who is also an Andorian.I forgot to mention last week that the punchline for all of the Sev comics (from what I remember) was always outsourced. There was a competition each week (or was it every 2 weeks?)
Sev me up!
Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, basically from the time I started browsing the internet in high school and early college, one of the websites that I went to pretty religiously was Sev.com.au, the home of a cartoonist who created comic strips around some popular science fiction shows, including Star Trek. In the early 2000s I guess he decided to call it quits, but I've recently been salvaging

RaidersI've been geeking out a bit on Defiance these past couple of weeks and focusing on getting the main missions completed before moving onto more episode-based missions. I am currently at an EGO rating of 292; pretty meager when you consider that the max EGO rating is around 6000, but anyway. Thus far I've completed the Mount Tam missions, where the main antagonists seem to be mutants of
Getting my toes wet with Defiance
Tuesday, Jun 23 2015 07:00 | Defiance, Entertainment, MMORPG, SciFi, StarTrek, Television, video games, VideoGames, Windows, XBOX
RuthusWell, after a few years of being on the fence, and now that Defiance has gone free-to-play, I decided to give this game a try. I had actually bought the xbox disc (at a steep discount) back at Christmas, but I had not activated my xbox live subscription (school and all), so I never really got to play Defiance on my xbox. Once it went free-to-play (or at least f2p was announced for PS3
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty | Done
A few weeks ago I finally completed the last game in the Metal Gear HD Collection, and that game was Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty. I suppose that the HD collection also include Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge, but since you have to boot up MGS3 to play them I am not counting them as part of the "HD" collection. Prior to playing it more recently, I had started playing MGS2 when it originally
Make it so! Hacking together a tricorder.
Now this is pretty cool! Someone hacked together a tricorder using an older iPhone and a tricorder toy from the late 90's. Full story on the Nerdist. Now if only this were real - and if the hardware buttons actually did something ;-)
Star Trek Online - Delta Recruitement and Season 10
Saturday, Apr 25 2015 22:29 | borg, Entertainment, iconian, MMORPG, online, SciFi, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames, vorta
Admiral Eris EzriIt's been a while since I've written about Star Trek Online (I think so anyway). Over the past few weeks the game has been running a recruitment drive to get more players to play the game. To entice the new players the game is giving away both some tangible and intangible goodies. Anyone who creates a new characters between the start and the end of the recruitment event
A few thoughts on Lexx
A number of years back I was walking through a Tower Records or Virgin Megastore, or something like that and I noticed a series called Lexx, which was touted as Star Trek's evil twin. Being a fan of Star Trek I thought that it would be worthwhile to try this series out, and since I had some time I decided to give it a try. The show is a space "exploration" based science fiction series with four
End of year shipyard clearning
With 2014 coming to a close, with little room to grow in my Star Trek Online ship inventory, and with several ships (Tier 5 Upgrade and Tier 6), like the Sarr Theln Breen ship, I thought it would be a good idea to go through my inventory and clean things out a bit. I was keeping a number of ships around in a just in case I want to use them again fashion, but the truth is they are a bit underpowered
Sevylon 5: Last best hope for peace
Back in the day a friend of mine and I used to have debates about which series was better, Babylon 5 or Star Trek Deep Space Nine. I sided with DS9 back then (still do, the dialog on Babylon 5 is pretty awful - good story though). There used to be a parody comic strip (which has now disappeared from the web) which had various off-shoots like Sevylon 5 (Babylong 5 parody). If the
Star Trek: Delta Rising (some thoughts)
It's been a couple of months since the release of Delta Rising, the second expansion to Star Trek Online, and I've been playing, slowly but surely, through the content and the reputation XP (while still keeping track of my research reputation). I'm seeing that this week will see the release of Q's winter wonderland, so before that hits, and I start fighting snowmen, I think it's an opportunity
Bioshock Infinite | Done
Monday, Sep 15 2014 17:30 | Bioshock, Entertainment, Games, SciFi, video games, VideoGames, WTF, XBOX
A couple of weekends ago I finished Bioshock Infinite (woot!). I had begun the game a little before I went off on summer vacation (so there was a big lag between when I started and when I finished), but it wasn't all that difficult to get back back in the groove once I got back from Greece. I have to say that the original Bioshock games left me with a sense of wonder whereas this game's
Vacation on Risa
While on my own Risian vacation (in Greece), I've been keeping tabs in Star Trek Online to see what's been happening in-game and what goodies await me when I return. Just like last summer, the Risa special event is back! Last year, while on vacation, the event was released and I missed more than half of it. I did star playing some of the special mini-games, but since I could nor get the Risian Corvette
Alien Nation - some thoughts
When I came back from Greece back in the 1990s there was a SciFi show on television called Alien Nation. In all honesty I don't remember much of the show because there was just so much to take in at that time. That said, I did end up catching one of the made for TV movies of the series as the show was winding down and it seemed pretty nice. Now that most of these things are available for
Shipyard spring clearning
With regular spring cleaning happening around here, I thought it would be a good opportunity to clean out the old shipyard of ships that I either rarely use in Star Trek Online, such as some free C-Store ships that I got as a promotion, or ships that I received earlier in the "career" of my captain that are just underpowered at the moment and can't really compete with end-game content.U.S.S. Star Trek Online - Season 9 imminent
It's nice to see Season 9 of Star Trek online coming out next week, too bad it's not coming out on Monday when I can actually play it (holiday). Oh well. I guess I will have to play as much as I can in the morning before I go to work :)Thus far I've maxed out Tolya (the Federation Admiral), and I am working on getting some of the loot (Dyson and Borg reputation systems) for the Romulan and Klingon.
Star Trek Fan Productions - Part II
It's been a while since I started watching fan-made series, so I decided to write a few quick words on some of the fan-made Star Trek series I've been watching.Dark ArmadaThis is a Dutch series as far as I can tell. The whole series is a set of mini episodes that all together tally up to the length of one regular television episode. At the end you have a cliffhanger: a dark armada coming
Halo 4 | Done
Thursday, Feb 27 2014 05:00 | achievements, Action, Entertainment, Games, Halo, SciFi, shootEmUp, video games, VideoGames, XBOX
Right before classes started a few weeks ago I decided to start playing Halo 4. Given the amount of games I ended up getting on Black Friday last year it was a bit tough to decide what to play next, but I thought that since the next Halo isn't coming for a while (and probably will only be on xbox one), this seemed like a good game to play for the story. This was the first Halo game I've played on the
Andromed | Re-viewed
Back when I was an undergraduate, and working two jobs and going to school full time, I had started watching another Roddeberry show called Andromeda. Since my schedule was irregular, and Andromeda may have shifted time-slots I wasn't quite sure when I'd be watching the show. Sometimes I caught it on the regularly scheduled time on the WB, and other times I'd miss it because of work (or traffic
Star Trek fan productions
Since I am all done with the Canon Star Trek films and TV series, with the exception of the animated series which I am slowly watching), I decided to venture out into the expanded universe of books and fan made productions. Since Star Trek Renegades has not been released yet, I though I would go through the back catalog of videos based, and some audio based, fan fiction. These are os moved brief reviews:
Star Trek: TNG | re-viewed
It's been quite a long time, but is have finally completed my reviewing of all Star Trek (official) TV series and movies. Well, OK, I have not yet seen the animated series, so I guess I can't claim "all" official ones yet. The latest one to get the check mark is the Next Generation and its associated movies. TNG was my first trek, wathvung it in Greecewhen is as a kid with my grandfather. Personally
Halo 2 | Done
It's not often that I go back to older xbox games (original xbox) to play a game that doesn't exist on the 360, but Halo 2 was an exception. I had started off with Halo 3, which was a little confusing (given that I didn't have the storyline established), moved on ODST and then to the prequel (Halo: Reach), which gave me some more information, and then to the Anniversary remaster. For reviews of those
Mass Effect 3 | Done!
Woot! I was able to complete the Mass Effect Trilogy before going on vacation! :-) First the Good points about the game. The character I had fun mass effect 2 transferred over into mass effect 3. NICE! I think I started playing as a level 25. I am not sure but I think I decided to pick the infiltrator class again. This was pretty nifty. The story line and the direction was pretty awesome as well.
Mass effect 2 | done!
This past weekend I completed mass effect 2 for the Xbox. The game, amazingly enough did not take that long to complete. I did go through enough missions to make sure that I got the loyalty of all of my crew members and had enough raw materials to upgrade the weapons and armor of the Normandy, but that did not seem to take long. Heck, I even completed the scientific or relic missions that I got through
Legacy of Romulus coming our way!
OK, so this may be a bit of old news, but I am just getting to it now :) There is a new expansion coming to the Star Trek Online MMO which will feature the romulans as a faction that players can play. No much is known yet, but the developers have put up an Q&A blog post that has been quite informative. What I am hoping for is some new content. I ground through the Federation missions
Star Trek Phase II - a nice fan made trek!
I've been going through all of the Star Trek series on Netflix and on Amazon Prime, going through and re-watching (and sometimes watching for the first time) episodes that I had seen a long time ago. Recently I finished the Original Series (wow...it was more campy that I originally remembered!), and all of the original cast movies. Before I moved on the the Next Generation I decided to go and

Over the weekend I finished off Mass Effect, which I had gotten as part of the Mass Effect Trilogy a while back. This is the second game I've finished on the xbox...and I have barely made a dent on Portable Ops. I am not at one of the Bosses (Python)
Some series finales, some thoughts
Over the past month or so a few shows (that I watched) have had their series finales, but I haven't had much time to really write about them. I thought a quick abstract of each would be good, just for posterity purposes ;-)FringeI have to say that I really liked fringe! I wasn't quite sure where it was going during the first season. Sliders...wow, what a missed opportunity!
Thanks to the wonders of Hulu and Netflix I was recently able to finish watching the entire series or Sliders. Stargate Universe - very exciting!

Voyager at least had a fully functional ship (with the exception of supplies if I am not mistaken), whereas the Destiny (the ship on SGU) is battered and beaten and in serious need of a spacedock (which they don't have).Still, it is a nice addition to the Stargate franchise, and I look forward to many, many seasons. At least
