On an accolade roll! -- well... I was...
I was in a bit of a roll with accolades on Star Trek Online; Accolades I hand't earned on the first play through. For some of these missions I haven't gone back to them in years. That said, I think I am done with the accolade hunt for now. Some are event-specific accolades (Summer event, or Arena of Sompek) that come around once in a while (summer even should be here "soon"), and
Review: Star Trek: Discovery: The Light of Kahless

Star Trek: Discovery: The Light of Kahless by Kirsten BeyerMy rating: 5 of 5 stars Not a bad comic, and one that brings forth a bit of prequel mythos into Star Trek Discovery. In this one we see the origins of the Sacrophagus ship, and T'Kuvma and Voq themselves, and other Klingons who are acting...dishonorably...to say the least. I am wondering if there will be any references to this
Star Trek Online 9 years

It's been a while since the actual anniversary date of STO, but it's been busy, so this draft has been sitting in my...drafts...for a while. This year Cryptic broke up the pieces of the infographic and released them a piece at a time on twitter, before putting the entire thing up on their website at the end. I am not surprised that Tactical captains are first in the list, and I am also
More Tardigrade news...
Monday, Jan 21 2019 09:14 | Entertainment, MMORPG, online, Sci-Fi, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
email update from STO - for those like me who got Lt. Tardigrade as their nouveau tomagochi ;-)Thanks to some generous donations from the local shipyard, the Lieutenant now had his very own starship bridge, of sorts, in his enclosure. We managed to secure three decommissioned consoles, and his very own Captain's chair. It's a little beat up, to be sure, but he doesn't seem to mind, and he's been running
Star Trek Online: Age of Discovery
Saturday, Jan 19 2019 02:00 | DSC, Entertainment, MMORPG, online, Sci-Fi, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
Last fall, in what seems like the heels of the "Victory is Life" expansion some new content dropped on STO, titled "Age of Discovery" which seems to be content for the game that runs concurrent with the show that started yesterday evening, and perhaps with the on-going IDW series on Star Trek Discovery. With this new content you start off as a cadet in the Discovery era of Star Trek

Man...after close to 6 years of play this accolade is finally complete! The other day I had the Dabo table going at DS9 on STO while having my iPad read back articles to me (some supplemental readings for the dissertation). It's pretty mindless to click and bet on Dabo, so while reading I just kept hitting 'play'. Well - finally I hit the 1,000,000 mark! I've won 1,000,000
OOFAT ICDE webinar
I guess I need to figure out a way to better IFTT vimeo things ;-) - Here is a recent ICDE webinar that I attended (probably should be on the IDStuff blog...but IFTTT does not distinguish between work, learn, and life content when I 'like' something on Vimeo. The title of this webinar is "Launch of the study: Models for online, open, flexible and technology enhanced higher education across the globe
Winter Wonderland is here!

One of my favorite seasonal STO events is here: Q's winter wonderland - where mischievous Q transports you to a...ermmm...winter wonderland...complete with winter events, winter clothing, and a new limited edition ship that you can claim. The Kramp'IhrThis year's addition to the game is the Kramp'Ihr - melding human winter-time monsters like the Krampus with Klingon undead (the Fekh'Ihr). It
This past weekend in Star Trek Online the Azure Nebula queue was the featured queue for group missions, which meant this was a good opportunity to earn an accolade that I haven't been able to get since I started going on the accolade hunt (mostly because people weren't queuing up for the Azure Nebula mission)In this mission... (from the STO wiki):After the briefing, the team will have twelve
Star Trek Online, Season 14
With Star Trek Las Vegas upon us, STO has announced some really interesting stuff coming down the pike, including captain Georgi LaForge, revamped Galaxy-class ships, and TNG Skants! I think that last one made me smile uncontrollably ;-) The Lukari and the Kentari seem to be kissing and making up for past aggression, and the Jem Hadar are back! When I saw the trailer (below) yesterday I expected
Competitive Wargames Reputation - STO
Friday, Apr 14 2017 03:30 | Entertainment, MMORPG, online, reputation, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
Well... Just as I finished one reputation (Lukari), and have enough marks to get the gear...and now there is a new reputation coming along. More grind....more grind :p This one has several different types of sets that can be mixed and matched, which means a ton of grinding ahead. But hey, there are capes!
First contact day is upon us!
Monday, Mar 27 2017 18:34 | Entertainment, Films, MMORPG, online, Sci-Fi, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
I saw, on the the STO blog, that First Contact day is almost upon us! For the event, STO will be doing the following:Captains who participate will search the area for useful parts, just like Cochrane scavenged the pieces for the Phoenix. Using these parts in conjunction with a basic hull assembly, captains will make their own model of the Phoenix by combining engines, hull, and stabilizer parts found
Joining the Breach
The Breach came back as an event queue in Star Trek Online last week. This comic sums up exactly how I felt about it. Although to be honest, it's much shorter, and the rewards seem better as compared to the original Breach queue, and I need to get enough Lukari marks to finish off that reputation... (original here)
Huzzah! More grinding!
Saturday, Jan 21 2017 01:00 | Entertainment, MMORPG, online, Sci-Fi, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
That title is a bit heavy on the sarcasm ;-)A new season of Star Trek Online has been announced, coming to us on PCs next week. The new season, titled "reckoning",continues the Lukari story arc, introduces the Tzenkethi (of Animated fame?), and of course introduces a new reputation titled "the Lukari restoration initiative", with new traits and gear you can get.I'll most likely get the gear
A temporal captain!
Wednesday, Jan 18 2017 08:21 | Entertainment, Games, MMORPG, online, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
Finally! I've now become an old school temporal captain ;-)About five years ago when I first started playing Star Trek online what I really wanted was to fly around in a Wells Class temporal science vessel (and sport the 29th century uniform). The problem? The Wells was a lockbox ship, and before I knew the odds of getting one I ended up opening a whole lot of temporal lockboxes with nothing
Starship drydock clean-up
While my alts in STO don't have a ton of ships, my main character has had both the main shipyard and the dry docks filled to capacity, leading to an inability of testing out new ships. So...I guess it was time for some early-semester cleaning. I went through and I got rid of ships that were either received by leveling up the character (Tier 1 through 5 ships), and ships that I could reclaim
Woah! STO ships to be available as models!
Well...that's some news! Last week Cryptic announced that models of their ships will be purchasable in the future since they just started a partnership with a 3D printing company for fulfillment. What it sounds like is that you'll be able to purchase a 3D printed version of a ship you own in the game (so I guess I need to either own, or have owned, C-Store and Lobi ships... dang...)
Star Trek Discovery: 10 years before Kirk
Wednesday, Aug 17 2016 02:00 | Books, Entertainment, novel, online, rumor, Sci-Fi, StarTrek, Television
This past week the rumor, or leak, is that the new Star Trek series (Discovery) will take place 100 years after Enterprise, and 10 years before the original series. I've seen a lot of "bah! humbug"-ing in the various facebook Trek groups I follow (mostly because of fan films). It seems that most people would prefer something set in the post-Voyager and post-Nemesis era, which
Now that's some fine lootin' !
Thursday, Jul 21 2016 09:38 | Entertainment, lootcrate, MMORPG, online, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
I received this month's lootcrate last night (woohoo!) and the physical goods were pretty cool. A planet express ship model, star trek decals, a comic book for 4001 AD (not sure what it is, so I guess I'll need to read it) and some Rick & Morty stuff (which again, not familiar with the series, but considering I've received Rick & Morty gear before, I might need to check out the series).Recently,
Agents of Yesterday official trailer
Wednesday, Jun 29 2016 01:30 | complaint, Entertainment, Games, MMORPG, online, StarTrek, trailer, video games, VideoGames, youtube
I was not convinced that I would be starting up a new character for this expansion, but after this trailer I am pumped! I may just create a new UFP character, do the faction specific missions, and then just use DOFF missions to level up to level 60. I might even skip most missions that I've done (at least) 4 times already. I guess this character falls into the tertiary category because

[SPOILERS - if you have not see it yet, go see it] A couple of summers ago, while driving around in Greece, I was listening to Trek.fm (best time to try new podcasts is when you are driving a lot!) In one of their shows (the continuing mission) they explore fan made productions that continue the stories set in the Trek universe - and Star Trek Horizon was one of these productions. After a long time

I never knew the joys of limited storage space...until I started playing MMORPGs... I haven't gotten to having 8 "mule" characters yet but who knows? If I continue playing, with all the expansions, I might end up there :p
New Dawn - Initial impressions
Kinda stinks to be both sick and have a ton of homework when new content arrives for games that you like to play, but oh well - such is life :) This past week Season 11 of Star Trek Online was released with new exploratory content, previous chapter revamps, a new reputation system, and some new PvE queues. I haven't had much time to dive in to play, but I did get some chance to go in and
End of the Iconian War
Tuesday, Sep 29 2015 04:00 | Games, MMORPG, online, SciFi, Stargate, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
Well, the end of the Iconian War is upon us! The story arc that started with New Romulus a couple of years ago is now seeing its conclusion. During this arc we've explored ruins under New Romulus, we've discovered Dyson Spheres (two of them, in-fact) we've fought the Elachi, the Hirogen, the Undine, the Voth,... and the Iconians (wow, that's a lot of people to fight), and we've
Delta Rising | Done again!

Eris EzriI just completed Delta Rising again, this time on my Delta Recruit (Fleet Admiral Eris Ezri). I wasn't quite sure I'd make it all the way here with Eris Ezri, but somehow having a character this close to the current story-line and not being there seemed like a waste. For those curious, I was going to make Eris Ezris be a half Vorta, half Trill, liberated Bork (hence the name), but that
Sev: Andorian Antennae
Thursday, Aug 27 2015 05:00 | comics, Entertainment, Games, Humor, MMORPG, online, SciFi, Sev, StarTrek, video games, VideoGames
This week's Sev Trek: Enterforaprize comic tackles the topic of Andorians and their Antennae. Andorians were actually one of my favorite species, as is evident from my Star Trek Online character who is also an Andorian.I forgot to mention last week that the punchline for all of the Sev comics (from what I remember) was always outsourced. There was a competition each week (or was it every 2 weeks?)
Star Trek Online Season 11 (woot!)
Nice! Season 11 of Star Trek Online has been announced and it's titled New Dawn!Among the changes, listed on the developer blog:Along with new lore and story progression in Season 11, Star Trek Online will also be updated with new gameplay options in the form of the Admiralty System. Take command of your inactive starships to complete dangerous assignments and gather exciting rewards,

Admiral Eris EzriIt's been a while since I've written about Star Trek Online (I think so anyway). Over the past few weeks the game has been running a recruitment drive to get more players to play the game. To entice the new players the game is giving away both some tangible and intangible goodies. Anyone who creates a new characters between the start and the end of the recruitment event
Shipyard spring clearning
With regular spring cleaning happening around here, I thought it would be a good opportunity to clean out the old shipyard of ships that I either rarely use in Star Trek Online, such as some free C-Store ships that I got as a promotion, or ships that I received earlier in the "career" of my captain that are just underpowered at the moment and can't really compete with end-game content.U.S.S. More fall cleaning: R.R.W. Krogan Decommissioned
R.R.W. KroganHaving cleaned up my Federattion Admiral last week (at least a bit) , I decided to clean up the Klingon General (Del'Aurian) and my Romulan Admiral (D'Nel) before things got too messy with my ships inventory. Thus, I ended up decommissioning two more Ships from my arsenal.First was a T'Liss Warbird from D'Nel's inventory, the R.R.W. Krogan (names after a species in the video game
Well... I wasn't particularly looking for another MMO to start, but I have been getting recommendations for EVE online and Marvel Heroes. The Marvel Heroes trailer looks good, and it's free-to-play! If I have space in my hard drive I may end up testing it out :)
Shi'Khar decommissioned, Nukara Tier V reached
U.S.S. Sagittaron NCC-94534Well, after a couple of months of grinding through Star Trek Online with the new Legacy of Romulus expansion pack, I've played through the new missions on the Federation side (still haven't given the avatar a proper name and background. Oh well, one of these days). I've also just unlocked Tier V on the Nukara reputation front, which means I can start collecting
Social profiles living on after a person's death - some thoughts
A while back I read this post (I wish I could remember the link) about Facebook suggesting that he reconnect with his friend but there was one gotcha in this situation - his friend had passed away a number of months ago - therefore even if this person tried to "reconnect" it would be a one-way conversation (unless they enlisted the help of medium). In any case, this got me thinking. These days
