Adults in the Room: My Battle with Europe's Deep Establishment by Yanis VaroufakisMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I wasn't really sure what to expect reading this (having read some commentary from online friends who read it as events were unfolding), but I read it anyway. I think it's a valuable read for individuals who want a glimpse into how large systems function, and how there are (potentially)

Today's "Ugh" (expression borrowed from George Station) ...From the Guardian:The data analytics firm that worked with Donald Trump’s election team and the winning Brexit campaign harvested millions of Facebook profiles of US voters, in the tech giant’s biggest ever data breach, and used them to build a powerful software program to predict and influence choices at the ballot box.Documents seen

Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael WolffMy rating: 4 of 5 stars By the grace of covfefe! I am done! Well...this was an interesting book to read. Yes, it probably lacks the regular fixin's of a biography, but it was quite enlightening to get an inside look at the cast of characters in the current presidency. If you are familiar with Star Trek's mirror universe...the way
Donald and John...
Seems like people are having fun with Trump in a variety of ways. Here is a comic that puts Trump in a Calvinesque (Calvin & Hobbes, not the other Calvin ;-) ) role. This would be much more fun if it weren't so serious. Stable Genius indeed...

This came across my feeds sometime during Thanksgiving, so in a sense it's a bit late, but considering that Turkeys are traditional in quite a few norther European cultures for Christmas, I might be a little early ;-). Some humorous commentary on Ajit Pai the current FCC chairman (and subsequently the corporatecracy...or just corpocracy that's ruling us these days) and the upcoming fight for

With the "Free Speech" rally happening in Boston today (and various other counterprotests), it seemed that this would be a good post for today - a report from other places already posted on facebook and other social media. Let's see who peaceful things are in Boston today. At least the police in Boston seem to have a better plan that those folks in NC, which I hope will keep folks safe.

MBA-speak, with John Oliver
Seems like a good week starts with John Olive and Last Week Tonight. I've queued up the video to the part that I found most funny (Dumbo Heights!!!), but the rest of the video is definitely worth a watch.

Somehow I got on the White House's mailing list (must have been some petition I signed at some point), and now I get spam like this. I guess the White House is seriously pushing their new reality show "Presidential", but it faces steep prime-time competition from ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, and El Rey. I think Sharnado probably does better than this new reality show ;-)

It amazes me that voters regret their vote on this. I could say something snarky about an informed voter populace, but I won't. All I can do is shake my head at them...Instead, I will share a meme that made me laugh...As a side note, I do wonder if there will be any "takebacksies" with this thing, since the vote to exit the EU isn't something that goes into effect right away.

Erdowie, Erdowo, Erdogan
Apparently the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has never heard of the Streissand Effect . From the New York Times:If President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey had hoped that summoning the German ambassador would get a video poking fun at him by a German satire program removed from the Internet, he was wrong. Instead, the move had any number of consequences, including provoking

It's super Tuesday! Go Vote!
I can't believe it's here! Super Tuesday! For those of you abroad, this is when a lot of states hold their primary elections (instead of having an election here and an election there in scattered form). This is usually when front-runner nominees show up.I can't believe that Trump is projected to win Massachusetts (I mean...seriously people!) Good thing I am independent and I can vote in

Last week on "last week tonight with John Oliver" the main investigative segment of the satirical news show was on voter ID laws. For those of you abroad, in the US you don't have to prove you are who you say you are in order to go vote. You can just go, give the person your street address, and your name, and they'll cross you off as having voted. I've always found this a little odd, that in
