Poking fun at online education

Don't get me wrong, there are institutions out there that are credible (and accredited) institutions of learning that have online branches for students who are far away, or have jobs and can't drop everything to pursue their education. But there are cases of diploma mills that grant MBAs to dogs how is it not easy to poke fun at online institutions? :-) This video is from last week's Saturday Night

Google Wave από iPod touch

Sidekick Fail!

One of the biggest stories over this past weekend was the Great Sidekick Fail of 2009. As a prospective user (well, OK, low chances of being a prospective user now) this incident is causing a lot of alarms to go off. Both Engadget and other sources (HipTop 3 for example) are pointing to a lack of backups and a failure to move servers or merge data. Well, OK, the failure to merge data or move to different

Do we need to explain what a browser is?

I know that this video is old (and I've probably posted it before) but here it is again: Random people asked what a Browser is:Now, I get that most laymen just click on the big blue "e" on their Windows PC, or have a friend that has forced them to use Firefox, but if you are using a tool, don't you want to know a little about it? I am not saying that you should know how stuff works inside your computer

Plato's Academy

I saw this trailer for Plato's Academy - a new Greek comedy (it seems). It's times like these that I wish my local theater (which does make a point to show artsy films) had Greek cinema as well.Heck, Peabody is right next door and there are lots of Greeks there, maybe they should have a Greek Film of the Month ;-)This trailer was also good ;-)

NetNewsWire for iPhone

When NetNewsWire announced that they will support Google Reader syncronization I almost jumped for joy since that meant that I could use a desktop RSS reader. I also said f***! because I had spent cash on byline for my iPhone. So how does the free RSS reader fare against byline? Well, I am still glad that I spent money on byline because it runs circles around NetNewsWire. While the free version of

Adieu Geocities!

It seems like the previous adieu Geocities was a little premature since Yahoo gave it a stay of execution. Now the time has come upon us as the old school daddy of free web-hosting is turning off the lights.I am wondering if my geocities email address will work after this (not that I've used it in recent years. The one problem that I see is that a lot of websites have been hosted by Geocities in the

Stargate Universe - very exciting!

OK, OK! Stargate Universe reeks of the same stench as Star Trek Voyager. Voyager at least had a fully functional ship (with the exception of supplies if I am not mistaken), whereas the Destiny (the ship on SGU) is battered and beaten and in serious need of a spacedock (which they don't have).Still, it is a nice addition to the Stargate franchise, and I look forward to many, many seasons. At least
