v6.2.3 - moving along, a point increase at a time

IPad: the mid point review

So, it's the mid point in my time that I have the iPad on loan from the department. Initial thoughts are a bit mixed. I have to say that the large screen makes for some pretty nice couch browsing while watching TV. The keyboard isn't that horrible to use (it's no physical keyboard but it works). I can't really tell if I am fasted on the iPad or on the iPhone in terms of typing. One of the major issues

Overdrive FAIL

The other day I was curious to see if Overdrive had an iOS app that I could load on my iPod Touch or iPhone so I can take advantage of the service offerings of my local public library.  I often go to the library to get videos or books (and on occasion books on CD), but lately I haven't had much of an opportunity to browse the stacks - and quite honestly my academic library keeps me busy with academic

Castlevania: Lords of Shadows

I guess that I am back in the video game mood (it's amazing what you're interested in when you don't have a ton of papers to write - LOL). In any case, I've always had this love-hate relationship with Castlevania, ever since the original GameBoy days. I've wanted to like it, I do like the story, but somewhere in the game I tend to lose interest. In recent years I got back into Castlevania first with

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - explained

I came across this video explaining the next installment of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. I can't wait to play it (even though I have not yet finished playing the second one). It's nice to see that the controls and what you can do in game evolve as the series evolves. I can definitely notice much more in Assassin's Creed 2 compared to the original game. Now you get to train new Assassins? Cool!I

There is more than one way to skin an iPhone

OK, bad pun!  With my recent jailbreaking I decided to have a look at Winterboard and themes (aka skinning) on the iPhone.  Back in the days of System 7.5 (all the way up to MacOS 9) there was a shareware program called Kaleidoscope that allowed you to change icons, windows, buttons and other UI elements of the MacOS.  Copland, the original MacOS 8 that was never released was supposed

Free: the future of a radical price

A while back I downloaded Free: The future of a radical price (by Chris Anderson) from Audible.  I'm pretty sure that it's probably still free (the eBook version was free for a while but probably not anymore). In any case, with the audible app, I've rediscovered by free purchase (which is probably in some backup disk somewhere), downloaded it and started reading it.I have to say that I really

One week jailbroken.

So, it's been one week since I jailbroke my iPhone. I decided to jailbreak it since I am already out of warranty (so if it broke I'd have to pay for a replacement anyway), and jailbreaking as made easy by going to jailbreakme.com, sliding the slider over and a few minutes later I was done.Did I jailbreak because of some sort of moral or philosophical reason? No, not really. I just wanted to try it

Racer - when video games and real life mashup

I came across this video yesterday of a pretty ingenious person creating a racing track for his remote control toy car and patching it into an driving arcade rig. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Oregon Trail: The movie

It's so good, you'll die of dysentery! (OK, that was a bad punch line...)Here's a fake trailer for the movie adaptation of the Oregon Trail. It should bring back fond memories of playing the game on an Apple IIgs :-)
