Attribution, in the open web
This past weekend I happened to see a post on twitter from a contact that I haven't seen in quite some time. This person is a photographer and earns a living from the photographs that she takes. It seemed to me that she was a bit annoyed that someone had used one of her photos on their blog, but had failed to give attribution. My gut reaction to this was "how dare they!" When you borrow something
Time Machine (Mouse Trap Style!)
OK, so they skipped some events, but this is still quite an amazing contraption!
The evolution of an MBA
I think this video is an attempt at humor. It wasn't bad; the student reminded me of Michael Scott from the american version of the office at the end. Maybe It's my aversion to the corporate element and the suit ;-)
Jersey Shore gone Wilde
I am not sure that "meta" is the correct term here, but "how meta!", also quite funny! (and I have not read any Oscar Wilde, and neither have I watched Jersey Shore.
Super Mario Crossover!
This is a good find: Play Super Mario Brothers with your favorite character from Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Simon Belmont or that guy from Contra :-) Now of course some things just don't work like Samus' blaster is kinda pathetic in the Mario World, and some things word great (like the Contra guy's gun). It's a nice little NES nostalgia mashup for those of us who grew up with it
Splinter Cell: Conviction - some thoughts [spoilers]
It's been a couple of weeks since I completed the single player missions on Splinter Cell: Conviction (I guess I have to find someone to do co-op missions with now, lol). My overall impression of the game is fairly positive. I really liked the game play, it was reminiscent of previous Splinter Cell games, but it did manage to push the envelope a tad bit further (in a good way). The
Sliders...wow, what a missed opportunity!
Thanks to the wonders of Hulu and Netflix I was recently able to finish watching the entire series or Sliders. Back when I was in high school I really liked the series, which originally aired on Fox, but, like many other shows, it was cancelled and later moved to a cable network - and I didn't have cable. I really wanted to find out what happened to the gang after all these years so I started
Professional Angst - the MLIS vs. the PhD
I haven't paid much attention to the library world in the past couple of weeks while I get acclimated to my new job, and while I've been playing around with various learning management systems (since we're moving from WebCT Vista to something else). I came across a blog post in the ACRLog the other day but didn't have much of an opportunity to read it until now. Its title "Why all the fuss over
Half-Made World, some thoughts.
Last fall I won a pre-release copy of the book Half-Made World by Felix Gilman - this was through GoodReads.com. Sadly with all the homework and school reading I didn't really get to read the book right away. Well, with school over I was able to finally pick up the book and read it. I thought that since I do not read a lot of fiction it would be a good change of pace for my reading habits. The
