Fable 2 | Done

This isn't new news, but while I was blogging about other things, I decided to mention this as well ;-)A short while back I finished off Fable II.  While I was playing MGS Portable Ops, I didn't want to start the next metal gear our of chronological sequence.  That said, I finished fable II pretty quickly, all things considered, and I am  still stuck on MGS Portable Ops.In any case,

Top 5%, eh?

Well, this is probably old news, but a while back I got this note from LinkedIn saying that my profile was among the top 5%.  Pretty cool!I must admit that I was simultaneously creeped out, and delighted that I was that "popular" on the web.  I am wondering what that says about my personality.  I am also wondering, in the grand scheme of things, what this 5% means.  Maybe for next

Adieu Google Reader :(

Come on Google!  What the heck?  >:-(I was checking my NERCOMP (local conference) tweets a couple days ago and I saw some buzz around Google Reader.  I decided to not pay too much attention to it because of lack of energy due to a cold.  Yesterday I saw that Google Reader is shutting down.  Come on google, what the heck? Google Reader is Powering Down?Google Reader has been

Metal Gear Solid 3 | Done!

Last December (or was it last summer?) I bought the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection which came with MGS 2, MGS 3, MGS: Peacewalker, and the original 3 (top-down) Metal Gears.  Oddly enough, there was no Metal Gear Solid (PS1 title) included in this.I decided to play the games chronologically, starting with the game that was furthest in the past, and that was Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The

Some series finales, some thoughts

Over the past month or so a few shows (that I watched) have had their series finales, but I haven't had much time to really write about them.  I thought a quick abstract of each would be good, just for posterity purposes ;-)FringeI have to say that I really liked fringe! I wasn't quite sure where it was going during the first season. It seemed like the X-Files for a new generation with the weekly

Adieu Messager, I guess...

I was reading my email this morning and I got a note from Microsoft telling me that they are trashing Windows Messenger and keeping Skype in it's place.  The truth is that I haven't used messenger in quite some time, but with Windows 8 I was looking forward to having it run in the background so I could use it for messaging (sort of how I have iMessage logged into my Yahoo, MSN Live, and AIM accounts

Red Dead Redemption | Complete

[Spoilers] A week of so ago I completed Red Dead Redemption on the XBox. This was a game that I had borrowed from a friend.  I had heard quite a lot of good things about it, but - honestly - the cover art really didn't sell the game for me (enough to buy it with my own cash) - so I traded with a friend.  They do say don't judge a book by its cover, and I guess this holds true for video games

Assassin's Creed III | Done!

Happy new year to all!Just in time for the new year,  I completed Assassin's Creed III which I got as a Black Friday deal on Amazon this past Thanksgiving (warning: spoilers!). I put Red Dead Redemption on the side for this game and I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot! I had seen the previews where the main character (ancestor) was an Algonquin Indian, so I was quite surprised when I started

On Social Networking...

The other day one of my long time friends and colleague posted on Facebook a quick pondering: is LinkedIn the right place for academics? The underlying thought is that LinkedIn is very instrumentalist and positivist in how it represents someone. Essentially what this means is that we setup profiles that represent a reality that we want to market to others, and we want to pass on that reality (our reality)
