Dissertation haunts you

From PhD comics from a week or so ago...  One of the reasons I don't really want to go on vacation until my dissertation proposal (or heck, even until my data collection) is done.

Bugsy is back!

I don't fully get this comic strip, but the funny thing is that I recognized the character (Bugsy) even though I've only really played about 5 minutes of the game on someone else's console...around 20 years ago.

Review: Star Trek Volume 1

Star Trek Volume 1 by Steve MolnarMy rating: 4 of 5 stars Both stories in this volume are titled after TOS episodes...which not surprisingly were comic adaptations of classic TOS episodes. As I was reading this collection I was getting mental images of the actual episodes and I was wondering why.  I a quick stop at Memory Alpha told me why! Overall this was not bad, but I think I was

Music Rewind - Walking on the sun

This isn't a new song, but I'm still looking for updated russian charts.  The song is Под звуки поцелуев, which translates to "the sound of kisses". Под звуки поцелуев by Ольга БузоваVerdict: My Russian is beyond rusty (falling part,

Sev TNG: Jazz humor...or not

This one didn't really resonate with me these days. Yes, it makes sense for Riker - given his interest in Jazz, but I think the alternate submission of " We could use it as a hood ornament for the Enterprize" was a little better.(original archive here)

Review: Teaching Crowds: Learning and Social Media

Teaching Crowds: Learning and Social Media by John DronMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I've had both a physical and a digital copy of this book for ages, but only really gone through select passages since I've had it. This time around I read through it cover to cover. It's interesting to read about sets, nets, groups, and collectives, and how they are instantiated using various technologies. I

Rip. Mix. Burn!

I was recently reminded of Apple's Rip. Mix. Burn ad campaign.  I remember at the time there were some MP3 players on the market (no iPod yet) which had an amazing 15MB of space on them, and SD cards cost a fortune.  Nice proof of concept, but CDs were way cheaper. If course, by that time, I was already Rip, Mix, Burning.  The software to mix (actually mix, not just re-arrange tracks)
