Adieu (old) Microsoft Education

I don't often write on this blog about educational services and edtech stuff, but since I've started the Adieu series here, I might as well post here.  Microsoft has offered free online training for educators. Of course, most of the training is on how you can use their products and services for teaching, so it's a bit infomercial-y at times, but it's good nevertheless.  The old site looked

Adieu Credly

A while back (5-6 years ago?)  digital badging for learning was the new hotness, and I was pretty excited about digital badge credentials.  Quite a few companies rushed to join this goldrush offering online platforms for credentialing, but it seems like the dust is settling.  With 2019 gone, one of these providers (and won't you know, it's the one I used for the classes I teach) is

Year in Beer: An untappd Year in review

Every year some social sites tend to a year in review with data from your activity on the networks.  This year is no different.  I thought I'd post some of the data that came my way.   Today I have some data from Untappd.  I started using Untappd in 2014 when I went to Edmonton for my Doctoral Cohort's initiation into the EdD program.  I was trying out new beers and wanted

Year in Review: Goodreads

Every year some social sites tend to a year in review with data from your activity on the networks.  This year is no different.  I thought I'd post some of the data that came my way.   Today I have some data from Goodreads. I always choose a low number of books to read each year.  I'd much meet and exceed my goal rather than not reach anything.  My goal this past year

Year in Review: Swarm

Every year some social sites tend to a year in review with data from your activity on the networks.  This year is no different.  I thought I'd post some of the data that came my way.   Today I have some data from Swarm (what used to be foursquare).  Location check-ins don't seem to be as big of a deal these days (with most competitors having gone the way of the dodo), but

Review: Star Trek: The Q Conflict

Star Trek: The Q Conflict by Scott TiptonMy rating: 4 of 5 stars This issue of IDW's star trek comics brought together 4 supernatural beings (Q, and a 3 from the TOS era) as well as the crews of 4 series (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY). The supernatural beings are warring. What VOY taught us is that extradimensional wars affect our universe. So... the superbeings decide to let humans complete tasks

Now that's one expensive Mac...

Ever since I can remember, whenever a new Mac was announced I'd always rush to the online store to spec it out.  I knew that I could not afford to get one fully decked (or even get one period since my existing computer worked just fine), but it was always fun to answer some "what ifs" (what if I won the lottery and could get a decked out mac?)It seems like I am not the only one who does this.

Review: Adults in the Room: My Battle with Europe's Deep Establishment

Adults in the Room: My Battle with Europe's Deep Establishment by Yanis VaroufakisMy rating: 5 of 5 stars I wasn't really sure what to expect reading this (having read some commentary from online friends who read it as events were unfolding), but I read it anyway. I think it's a valuable read for individuals who want a glimpse into how large systems function, and how there are (potentially)
