Εύρηκα! (eureka)There is nothing like a deadline to get you going - that's all I have to say! A while back, like last January or something, a colleague asked me if I would be interested in presenting at an IALLT webinar on a topic of my choosing - it just had to do with technology and education. I generally don't have a problem with coming up with topic to talk about, but this particular

Well, after a couple of month of not paying the Ning bill UMassID.com is dead! Well, the domain is still fine, @cdetorres got that one for 10 years, but the Ning community that it pointed to is pretty much dead.So what is was UMassID.com? Well, back in 2008, when I started my MEd in instructional design, the outgoing class was looking for a new president for the student association (GIDA - Graduate

So, the other day I was at the NERCOMP annual conference. I heard a few people speak (cool stuff), and I also got an opportunity to chat with people, and be a nosy eavesdropper on other people's conversations. One of the things that came up, as has come up elsewhere in the past three or so years, has been the concept of MOOCs as OER and MOOCs as OCW. We've actually seen this

I just realized that it's been a while since I've posted something on here. I guess compared to other blogs I am still a regular poster, but I'd like to post more often. Well, here I am! I guess time flies when you are having fun, and getting over a cold (have we found a cure for that yet?)This month has been a crazy month, in addition to the day job, and my part time teaching gig (which

I was planning on doing a live-blog of NERCOMP last week, using storify, but in the end I got so wrapped up in the conversation, and the tweeting, that storify didn't really happen for me. Last night I played with Storify a bit, grabbed as many images, tweets and websites I could and made a rather weak live-blog. Oh well. Maybe I will be doing some live-blogging at AAAL this weekend. In

I posted a link to the notes that I took during the NERCOMP unconference session that I proposed and lead in my previous blog post. Granted, the notes are a bit disconnected because I was jotting down ideas, notes, and thoughts as they were being mentioned by participants so you may not get a coherent view of everything. My initial thought on a course on Learning Management Systems was that students
LMS unSIG (unconference, unworkshop) a success
A big round of applause for the organizers of the LMS unSIG that took place last Monday. Harvested Tweets and other information from the website (including the notes for the session I moderated) are on the unSIG website. This was my first unconference and I have to say that I liked the setup of the unconference. Most times you go to these workshops and there are topics that you aren't interested
Wisdom of the Masses and Course Creation
A few years ago, when I was still a student in Instructional Design, the then program director of the instructional design program had an idea for a new course for our program: a course on learning management systems. Her conception for the course was that students in the course would get hands on with many different learning management systems, so that when they graduated they would be conversant

A month (or more?) ago @cdetorres tweets me (or was it IM? I don't remember) about submitting proposal for the 2012 NERCOMP conference. I had gotten a notice about this, but I had completely forgotten about it, and I was working on a MobiMOOC related paper. In any case, the deadline was that evening and my brain was sufficiently tired to not want to do work. Despite this I ended up putting
Library-IT Mergers in Academic Institutions
I came across this NERCOMP presentation a week or so ago, but I only got to go through it the other day. All I can say is that I wish that I had been able to attend the NERCOMP conference and this presentation in general because it's a project that I've been involved with at my campus. No, my campus still maintains a separate library and IT group, however as a Management student I've worked on proposals
