Greece comes a step closer to being run by the Taliban...

Repost from HellasDevil:
"The Greek blog search engine, blogme.gr is off the air.
Why? Because a controversial (to say the least) Greek public figure decided to do a search on himself and didn't like what results he got. He regarded the content of one of the blogs slanderous so he decided to make a complaint and sue blogme.gr (the search engine)...
What actually happened is that the police stormed the home of the adminstator of blogme.gr, they then arrested him, confiscated his computer, took him to jail, made him spend a night behind bars before taking him before the District Attorney the next morning, again in handcuffs.
The Greek blogosphere wish to send a strong message of support to Mr Tsipropoulos (the administrator of blogme.gr). We also protest most strongly against this unprecidented case of censorship as well as the treatement of Mr Tsipropoulos by the authorities.
It does make you wonder whether you really do live in a free and democratic country."
Repost from Serenity:
"An unprecedented case of censorship against www.blogme.gr, a search engine for Greek blogs, has provoked hue and cry in Greek blogs. The case was made known by an e-mail sent by the search engine's administrator, Mr. Andonis Tsipropoulos, to all listed members yesterday evening. By this e-mail the administrator informed members that a Greek public figure -whose name has not been disclosed as yet by Blogme.Gr- prosecuted the search engine for what he/she regarded as slander in one of its listed blogs! The administrator was arrested without prior notice last night at his residence. He spent the night behind bars and was taken today to the Distric Attorney wearing handcuffs. His company - funded by an unemployment subsidies' program - has been forced to suspend its operation. Mr. Tsipropoulos has in overall sustained great damage on a professional and personal level alike.
In his e-mail, Mr. Tsipropoulos wrote: "This is the first time ever that a search engine - a site collecting information on the web - has been associated with the content of a web log and sued for it. Never before has an offended individual in a democratic country resorted to a lawsuit of this kind till this very day, with the exception of repressive regimes. Most recent examples are Singapore and China. However, even in these cases the lawsuits were against the blog administator, and not a blog directory that collects information such as Blogme. [...] As a result of this selective prosecution, Blogme has become the sole website collecting information that has sustained the implications of this action, among hundreds of similar search engines in the Greek and the World Wide Web, many of which display in different ways the contentious blog in their results." Mr. Tsipropoulos goes on saying that Blogme.Gr does not wish the prosecution of other search engines and that it does not pass an opinion on the blog in question or any other blog or web page content which it does not countersign. According to the Greek legislation, this case is directly associated with all that applies to the freedom of press and the information society in Greece."

Bloodrayne: Another video game movie gone bad
29/October/2006 09:27 Filed in: Escape
A few years back I played Bloodrayne on my mac - I
really liked the game so I decided to go see the
movie that came out. Video game movies have been
hit-or-miss in general but this one... boy-oh-boy...
way it bad. I don't have to say anything original
because the IMDB comments of others are sufficient:
"The dailogue is either very cliché, or very stilted (and often both). There are serious continuity issues. The gratuitous sex scene was so completely sudden it seemed like an excerpt from a porn movie."
"During the screening, I wanted to leave bad, but literally came to tears when I found out I couldn't. "Bloodrayne" is waste of time, money, human logic, and sanity. It's torturous, painful, and sad."
"Trivia: The half-naked prostitutes in the scene with Leonid (Meat Loaf) are actually real Romanian prostitutes. According to director Uwe Boll (at the Stockholm International Film Festival) it was cheaper to hire real prostitutes than actresses."
"Uwe Boll deserves nothing less than public flogging for ruining a pretty good VG series. I read elsewhere that most of the actors were either drunk or high and very ashamed and it's easy to see and understand why."
"Michael Madsen, a legend of cult cinema, sways his way through the film swinging a sword like he's drunk. Ben Kingsly mumbles about as if he's simply bored. Kristanna Loken looks beautiful but doesn;t carry the furiosity of Rayne....and therefore simply doesn't create a sense of believability. Michelle Roudriguez looks as if she'd rather be doing some porn film and Meat Loaf just seems to be on aboard for the opportunity to lounge around in a room full of prostitutes."
"There is a sex scene involving the beautiful Kristanna Loken and some Matt guy....instead of increasing a romantic sub plot, tension or signs of "human emotion" within Rayne...the scene simply feels like a seqence from a porn film has been lifted into the film."
"All in all the only praise I can give this film is that it finally ended. Only go to see this film if you are desperate to see Kristanna's breasts as she humps a guy against a cage wall."
"absolutely the worst acting I have seen, Including a 6 year old dance recital"
There is much more - just check out IMDB if you want to read more about how bad this film is

Jericho: Best New Show This Year!!!
14/October/2006 20:44 Filed in: Entertainment
The best new show this year is Jericho, on CBS.
There are other shows I like (more this year than last! the networks are really pushing it!) - but Jericho takes the prize!
I hope it doesn't get cancelled like other good shows (network execs have in the past proven to not be the brightest bulbs)
Have a look and get hooked:

Vote YES on proposition #1
09/October/2006 18:44 Filed in: Escape
Never seen so much BS on TV as I have with this
year's elections.
One of the propositions on the ballot is Proposition 1, which will allow grocery stores to sell wine.
Right now Massachusetts in one of only two states that does not allow alchol to be sold by anyone other than liquor stores.
There is so much bullshit and propaganda on TV that you would not believe, people opposed to proposition 1 say that if allowed it will increase underage drinking, drink driving, and more generally contribute to further societal downfall. What a bunch of BS! Grocery stores still need to check for ID to not sell to underage buyers. What Proposition #1 will do is break up the monopoly that package stores have and it will allow more stores to sell Wine (so people can enjoy some wine with their dinner!) and it has the potential to benefit the customer with convenience and lower prices for consumers.
So, do go out and vote yes on #1 and escape the bullshit that people without a brain are trying to feed you.
