Club Admiralty Blog

A blog about life in general, in as many languages as I can manage. Ενα ιστολόγιο περι ζωής, πολυγλωσσο - σε όσες γλωσσες εχω μεράκι να γράψω.

One more on the vintage tech!

Pocket Surfer 2OK, I sort of felt like I should have an honorable mention category for all the things I was going to post, and that I had drafts started back in my drafts blogs in 2019, but ultimately I ended up deleting, due mostly to a change of interests.  Still, here's a list of devices that didn't make the cut in my technology retrospective:1996-2013 Windows Handheld PCs (Wikipedia, YouTube)2000

Xbox gaming | Year in review

The final Year In Review 2022 is all about gaming, which for me means mostly xbox (if you exclude STO). I am actually a little surprised that I only played 7 games last year (completed 6, still working on AC: Valhalla - I am not sure what counts as "complete" on TrueAchievements). Perhaps I shouldn't be, most games were rather large games and based on my stats a lot of gameplay took place around periods

Juiced.GS to be acquired by Microsoft

Well, here's the first April Fools joke today.  This comes from the web-based magazine Juiced.GS, a magazine that writes about the Apple ][ GS.  Apparently it's 1998 and it's being acquired by Micro$oft ;-)A bit of copy/paste from the email I read this morning:APRIL 1, 2022 — LEOMINSTER, MA — Microsoft, hot on the heels of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, has announced

Microsoft's cancelled AndromedaOS

The other day Windows Central published a look at Microsoft's canceled mobile operating system, codenamed Andromeda. This was going to be the next iteration of Windows Mobile, which bit the dust.  It's too bad, because I think that Microsoft had something there with the whole Metro UI, and they could have bankrolled the OS until it caught on, but the janky transition from WM7 to WM8 to WM10

The Matrix Awakens

OK, I know this is just a demo (and demos are...marketing), but this title on the xbox looks amazing 😁

Batman Arkham Origins | Done

So here's a recent game I completed! (woohoo!) I finished this one in November 2021 (last week actually), and I thought I'd write up some quick thoughts about it.I have about a dozen games (mostly trilogies, or parts of trilogies) still on disc from the xbox 360 days - so I thought I'd work through my backlog of games on disc, so I can move most xbox 360 stuff into storage.  Batman Arkham

Vintage Tech - HTC Blue Angel, Universal, HD Mini, and Moto Mpx

Windows Mobile. So much promise...So much frustration ;-) After a hiatus from Windows Mobile (after mu iPaq), I had decided to try windows mobile again.  At the time HTC seemed to be the golden child of the industry when it came to windows phones.  They made reference designs that other companies could use or rebrand.  One such design, which caught my eye, was the HTC Blue Angel

Vintage Tech - iPaq

Back when I started my graduate studies, I decided to leave the Apple Newton behind (I know, sacrilege, eh?) and get a more "modern" PDA.  While my Newton did support unicode (probably the first platform to do so natively, I think), the unicode was not implemented, so typing in Greek was a pain. I had to either use Greeklish, or use the Symbol font to display contacts (which made my non-Greek

Year in review: xbox

Unfortunately this year the Microsoft Xbox team didn't do a year-in-review graphic for their plays 😢. It would have also been an opportunity to do a decade-in-review, but oh well.  Missed opportunity.  I guess they are working hard on the next Xbox, which is slated to be released December 2020. I connected my Microsoft account with True Achievements to get a sense of what was played

Adieu (old) Microsoft Education

I don't often write on this blog about educational services and edtech stuff, but since I've started the Adieu series here, I might as well post here.  Microsoft has offered free online training for educators. Of course, most of the training is on how you can use their products and services for teaching, so it's a bit infomercial-y at times, but it's good nevertheless.  The old site looked
