Alllllright!  I guess there was one more Year In Review for 2023! This one came in while I was on vacation overseas. It seemed interesting enough to post about.  I think March was my busiest month because I probably marked a whole bunch of past seasons of shows as "viewed" and the platform took that to mean that I watched them in 2023.  I wish there was a "watched when originally

 Admittedly, I don't drink much beer. I used to want to try out new beers a lot more the years before COVID, and in 2021 I decided to take a year off beer (and most alcohol for that matter).  This year I checked into Untappd 77 times, which isn't bad. Some was to drink old favorites, and other times to try out new flavors.

 Continuing on with my Year In Review for 2023, today I'll post some screenshots from stuff on Reddit.  Not sure what the algorithm picks up as important on that platform (there was some complaining that I noticed in December), but it's still mildly entertaining. WhitePeopleFacebook is particularly cringeworthy - sometimes you can't look away from a trainwreck...

At the end of  November, I decided to scale back a lot of my Twitter usage (no, I won't call it "X").  I've been using Fedica to cross-post across mastodon, bluesky, and twitter since this summer (and when threads becomes available, I'll post on threads too). Meanwhile I have 5 tabs open in the browser, and four apps on my old phone (now used like an "iPod touch" style device) that I use

 Well... I didn't think I'd be migrating from one Mastodon server to another one so soon (I just created the account this past spring!), but here we are! 🙄 I joined this particular server because it seemed like this was where fellow academics were going after they left Twitter (or while they were co-establishing their presence on Mastodon). I should have read the prohibitions a bit more carefully

 TVTime, the app I use to track what I've watched on TV (and in various streaming services) gave me a "rewind" this year. I think some of my stats are a little skewed because I marked a lot of episodes watched in 2022 when I had really watched them in years prior, and I only really rated like 4% of the episodes that I watched.  Maybe in 2023 I'll rate things more consistently to see what

 While this isn't quite a "year in review," it's interesting to grab a snapshot of various Twitter interactions this time of year and do a year-to-year comparison (usernames for this year at the end of the post). I am not sure what time period the Twitter Circle application is sampling to generate this, but I do wonder how much the migration to mastodon-based services has impacted this year's

What I missed in Podcasts in my Year In Review, I think I made up in Audiobooks and Comic Books! My goal was to read 20 books (admittedly a low goal...) and I ended up reading 255 books, audiobooks, and comic books in 2022. Now, for something a bit different.  Beer!  In 2022 I started drinking beer again.  In 2021 I decided to stop drinking beer for a year (with a few exceptions, like if I went out with family and had a drink with a meal - something unlikely due to COVID).
