Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles | Done

Well...it took a while...a long while, but this game is done ;-)  I had started to play this game part time on my 3DS because I wanted to get through the entirety of the assassin's creed series before I got an xbox one.  I had originally played this on my jailbroken iPhone 3GS many years ago (back in the iOS 4.x days) and I found the game extremely (extremely!) frustrating to control

What's next for the iPhone?

So... this week Apple announced the iPhone 7, and due to their "courageous" stance (barf!  seriously Phil! Barf!) they removed the headphone jack.  Not courage at all - just making one more thing obsolete, or so you hope.  Now, granted, in my day to day use of my phone I use my motorola S305 bluetooth headphones, so I personally won't be missing the jack (unless I am flying and

A little less retro...with the N8

It's been an interesting experiment using the Motorola Razr as my daily driver, however with the lack of being able to just search the internet the phone didn't really do it for me (despite the satisfying "clack" you hear when you flip it closed).  I was looking on the web and I decided to buy a refurbished Nokia N8 to keep me going a bit until I find an android phone which I like. The

Assassin's Creed: Discovery | Done!

In my quest to play through as many Assassin's Creed games as possible, I got a Nintendo 3DS last year (well, I've been wanting one for a while and this was just a good excuse), and hit eBay for cheap (used) copies of the game.  There have been 2 Assassin's Creed games for the DS, one taking place in Altair's time, and one in Ezio's time.  I chose to play Ezio first, and go with the

iPhone backdoors

Last week in the news there was a lot of news around the government trying to strong-arm Apple into breaking into the iPhone of a terrorist shooter (the San Bernadino shooter), a device they have in evidence but it encrypted.  It seems that the government IT folks created this mess for themselves and now the government is looking for an excuse to have backdoors into our computing devices.

Another apple keynote? When did that happen?

When I was younger I used to inhale Apple Keynotes.  I think part of it was Steve Job's presentation style that really drew me in.  I was also a big Apple fan (well, I still am), so I really wanted to know what products came out and get all the related specs and dirt as soon as possible  Early on this meant buying MacAddict, and heading to the Boston Public library to read the

Make it so! Hacking together a tricorder.

Now this is pretty cool! Someone hacked together a tricorder using an older iPhone and a tricorder toy from the late 90's. Full story on the Nerdist. Now if only this were real - and if the hardware buttons actually did something ;-)

Vacation: Technology Fails!

myWind IT App Before I go ahead and talk a bit about mobile access while abroad, I thought I would start off with the technology fails of the trip.  Some were completely avoidable, and some, not so much. I guess first I will tackle the issue of power. The last time I vacationed I only vacationed with one device: my smartphone.  It was also a non-connected phone so the battery lasted

Switch to Lumia ad - pretty funny

I was listening to MacBreak Weekly today, when they were discussing this ad. Personally I am not interested in switching to the Lumia just yet (like the device, but Windows Phone isn't quite there yet for me), but I found this ad hilarious :-)

Adieu OpenFeint...I guess?

Well, this one crept up on me. OpenFeint, a cross-platform social network for gaming is closing its doors in a few weeks.  It started life on iOS, as far as I know, and later on got onto Android and Windows Phone.  Initially the pitch was global leaderboards for games, something that I really didn't care for much in my iPod touch days...but then came the achievement badges for games and
