World War Z | tried

Another "tried" review from my gamepass days. This one from April 2020.  I think this may be the last one!Anyway, I am a fan of FPS games, and of the zombie genre, so I had high hopes for this game.  It was a fairly fun game, but really low on replayability IMO.  The game teams you up with four other people and you can choose your location (see story summaries from Wikipedia).

Smoke and Sacrifice | Tried

This one was another xbox gamepass game that I gave a quick try back in May 2020. Since my gamepass was expiring, I thought I try as many games as I could to see what might be worth buying.Anyway, the story drew me in, but the gameplay kept me away. The game seemed to be very heavy into the resource finding, resource managing, and resource crafting components and not so much in the getting stuff

Streets of Rage 4 | Done

Catching up on my quick thoughts on games that I played a long time ago (or so it seems!).  This one was completed on 5/31/2020 and it was a game that I had access to on Gamepass The game is a classic side-scrolling beat-em-up, similar to other titles like Double Dragon, Final Fight, and of course, the classic Streets of Rage.  Having played this game, I think I like Streets of Rage better

Apple VideoPad II

Well, this piece of Apple history is going up for auction, it's not something I had even heard of prior to this week!  The Verge reported that an auction is taking place soon for a rare prototype of a tablet/communicator that Steve Jobs scrapped back in the 90s.  The Verge writes that:Developed between 1993 and 1995 with VideoPad 1 and 3 (the only two examples shown to the public),

Adieu Blogsy!

Well...I guess it's adieu Blogsy 😥Yes, I am a little late to the party since the closing blog was written in 2016, but it's still a bummer.  Blogsy was one of those apps early on in iOS's history that made the iPad a really great productivity machine for bloggers.   The thing that I loved about it was that you could connect various blogging platforms, like blogger and Wordpress, and

Review: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—Too Long a Sacrifice #4

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—Too Long a Sacrifice #4 by David Tipton My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is a review of all 4 issues of the story. This was a good detective story, and it reads very much like an on-screen DS9 episode (which I think is a compliment).  It's interesting to see the effects of the Bajoran occupation still ringing all these years later. Review: Steal the Stars

Steal the Stars by Nat Cassidy My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was much more interesting than I thought it would be.  Private corporate entities that subcontract for the government and a secret crashed alien? What could possibly go wrong!  The version I listened to was the original podcast version released by Tor.  The prequel story (also a podcast

TV Binge - Part V

So much time to catch up on TV watching over the summer while there really isn't all that much new stuff on TV 😂. OK, here's some recap of stuff from August... (yeah, I know I am behind...)Van Helsing (Season 5)I wasn't really sure how this series was going to end.  It did feel like they were grasping at straws close to the end of season 4 and the start of this season.  Over the

Review: Children of the Storm

Children of the Storm by Kirsten Beyer My rating: 3 of 5 stars Continuing the adventure of the "armada" of Starfleet vessels as they explore the delta quadrant. It seems like the Children of the Storm were something we saw on screen at some point, but I really don't remember them. Not a bad story, with overtones of Taelons and the Genesis Device. From the blurb: "YOU WERE TOLD NOT TO RETURN TO

Review: Star Trek: Voyager—Seven’s Reckoning #4 (of 4)

Star Trek: Voyager—Seven’s Reckoning #4 (of 4) by Dave Baker My rating: 4 of 5 stars Quick thoughts on the entire story:  Interesting overtones of "Star Trek Insurrection" with the whole "we're using these aliens to keep ourselves young", and an interesting means of having Seven come to terms with leaving the Borg Collective.
