Come on Google!  What the heck?  >:-(

I was checking my NERCOMP (local conference) tweets a couple days ago and I saw some buzz around Google Reader.  I decided to not pay too much attention to it because of lack of energy due to a cold.  Yesterday I saw that Google Reader is shutting down.  Come on google, what the heck? Google Reader is Powering Down?

Google Reader has been an awesome service that I use daily!  Granted, since they borked the "share on google reader" feature I've only been checking via mobile, but I still use it!  I guess this is the opportunity I was looking for, a swift kick in the pants to download my subscription in XML, setup delicious sharing, and just share my interesting reads on Delicious.  I guess I also need to update my website...  Well Foo to you google :(

We have just announced on the Official Google Blog that we will soon retire Google Reader (the actual date is July 1, 2013). We know Reader has a devoted following who will be very sad to see it go. We’re sad too. There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience. To ensure a smooth transition, we’re providing a three-month sunset period so you have sufficient time to find an alternative feed-reading solution. If you want to retain your Reader data, including subscriptions, you can do so through Google Takeout.
