So much time to catch up on TV watching over the summer while there really isn't all that much new stuff on TV 😂. OK, here's some recap of stuff from August... (yeah, I know I am behind...)

Van Helsing (Season 5)

I wasn't really sure how this series was going to end.  It did feel like they were grasping at straws close to the end of season 4 and the start of this season.  Over the years I also lost a bit of the plot (I really need to rewatch short seasons before rewatching a final season of anything), but at the end the whole time-travel aspect of this series kind of lost me. 

That said - I really did like the ending.  The ending returns to the beginning, meaning that Axel is left to guard Vanessa's body after she sacrificed herself, by allowing Jack and Ivory to bite her in order to extract the essence of evil and free the world from it.  It was a good ending, but it meandered a bit to get to it.  I'd watch this again.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

This one was on Netflix. The funny thing is that I have not played any of the main Resident Evil games.  I tried the first one, but the survival horror aspect had me running for the exit once those hellhound things attacked and killed me mercilessly.  The only one I've played and completed (and rather enjoyed) was Operation Racoon city (I wish that Microsoft would bring this to backward compatibility!).  Anyway - despite me not playing these games, I did recognize Leon and Vanessa right from the start.  The events, apparently, take place between RE4 and RE5, and after a hacking incident at the White House, Leon is brought in to investigate.  There is also another main character, a former (?) soldier who saw some serious sh*t in his day with the virus.  The shooting of this reminded me a lot of Blackhawk down.  The final battle was also very reminiscent of Operation  Racoon city.  Fun mini-series.  I would definitely watch more Resident Evil content if Capcom and Netflix decided to make more :-)

Space Precinct

This one was part of my "vintage" (80s/90s) sci-fi that I may have missed. It was free on Tubi. The intro credits give you a brief idea of where you are and what's happening, but I don't think it's enough.  Somehow an NYC detective moved to Demeter City, a place where humans and at least 3 different types of aliens reside with one another. I think the series drops you right into a police procedural with aliens (some of whom speak with a NY or NJ accent...) without really explaining the origins.  I think that there is a missing pilot episode that was never made that should explain the characters and how they got there in a little better way.  Anyway...as early-90s sci-fi shows go, this wasn't bad.  There were endearing characters and if you enjoy the campiness you'll have a good time with this show.  The finale didn't feel like a finale.

Loki

I guess there was a new show this summer! Loki was available on Disney+ and Loki is abducted by the Time Variance Authority because he is a "variant" (and alternative timeline) which isn't approved by the almighty time Gods (or whatever). The show is basically, in my mind, all about a rebelling against the one canonical timeline (which poses some interesting thoughts to ponder for things like Star Trek).  I did enjoy seeing all of the variant Lokis that the main Loki interacted with (some might be from old comic books, if the visuals are any clue).  Speaking of visuals: they are freaking fantastic!  I love the retrofuturistic look that the TVA has! I am looking forward to season 2.
