Last summer I deactivated @AdmiralAK - my first (circa 2006) Twitter account. A week or so ago, Twitter reminded me that my @koutropoulos account was celebrating it's 15th Twitterversary. I saved the graphic and I decided to call this my Professional SocialMediaVersary. My @AdmiralAK account (as well as other social media accounts at the time, including this blog) was focused more on personal things.  What's happening in town, at work, in the world. What sorts of TV I am watching, and what games I am playing. And, of course, connecting with other geeks around the world. When I created @UMassID (later to be claimed as my account), the point was to promote instructional design and learning, report from conferences through backchannel conversations, post interesting news articles and journal articles from the field, and so on.  When no one wanted to take the reigns of @UMassID (student clubs at the time seemed to not be as important to graduate students), I thought I'd keep the history and rename the account; and tweet under my own name.

I do find that conversations across five networks are more fragmented and more transactional, and some people have mostly noped out of the discussion altogether.  The "magic" that we brought to Twitter won't be reclaimed, but my Professional SocialMediaVersary serves as a reminder that there is value in this kind of activity.
