Anyway, we send The Salvare to make first contact, only to find out that the civilization that contacted us is a colonizer.  From what I gathered the mechanical constructs that this civilization had created actually killed them off, and then went on to try to kill or subjugate others species in the galaxy.

 The protagonists take care of the big bad (eventually) - or at least have them running with their tail between their legs, and we find out we're not alone in the galaxy, so in the final montage, we see more ships being built so that we can go explore strange new worlds.  The second season wrapped up the storyline nicely, so I doubt there will be a third season.  Definitely worth the watch.
