TV- Jack Ryan | Review

Here's a show I finished last month (August 2024) and thought I'd write a few things about it before it completely faded from memory. This is a Tom Clancy adaptation for Amazon Prime. The series had four seasons, and the first two were the strongest in my view. The series stars John Krasinski (of The Office fame) as Jack Ryan, and Wendell Pierce as James Greer (Ryan's Boss).
The first season follows Ryan as he moves from a desk job into the field after discovering a string of dubious bank transfers, which are being carried out by a rising Islamic extremist named Suleiman.
The second season has Jack in the middle of political warfare in a corrupt Venezuela. The third season has Jack investigating a plot to re-create the former Soviet Union by detonating an untraceable tactical nuclear bomb in the Czech Republic. And, finally the fourth season sees Jack as the CIA's acting deputy director, with foes foreign and domestic. 🥱
The first two seasons were good. The third season was OK, but what got me trough it was partly the locale: it was supposedly partly taking place in Greece, so I was there for that. The final season was basically me watching the series because of Krasinski and Pierce (and because I am a bit of a completionist). While the characters got a full arc; from desk job, to the field, and then back to a desk job; the shark was already jumped I think by the middle of season 3.
