One day as I was logging out of my Google Reader, I saw this popular item starting me in the face on download squad. I don;t subscribe to the download squad since that would be overload for me - I'd have to declare RSS bankruptcy on a daily basis :-)

Anyway, I had a good chuckle at this article because I have seen the effects of this time and time again. You download an installer for some application that you REALLY want, but you just click next, next, next, next through the installed without paying attention. The result? Many, many, many toolbars! When I've seen this on people's PCs I wonder why. Why do you not pay any attention when you are installing things? Not everything is mandatory! If it is mandatory it won't ask you if it has permission to install!

The other thing, about the antivirus overload, I am currently experiencing. My work machine was ultra snappy. Just McAfee and Windows Defender. With a recent McAfee update and a mandatory (by the IT department) installation of StopZilla, the boot up time of my snappy PC has diminished. Thankfully once things get going it's still quite usable.

At home I've got a Mac, so I don't have do deal with this stuff :-)
