Pretty Hard Cases

This is a buddy cop comedy that you can catch on the CBC in Canada (and maybe on NBC in the US?). The series follows two detectives in their early 40s. One is Sam, an uptight and by-the-book guns and gangs division detective (who is doing everything "right" so she can get promoted), and Kelly, a streetwise narcotics division detective. Both of them are ambitious and accomplished in their own ways in the work environment but they struggle with their personal lives. As one would expect in a buddy-cop show, these two drive each other crazy, which interferes with their ability to work together.

The funny thing here is that Sam's kid is dating the daughter of one of the drug dealers (he doesn't know it), so hilarious hijinx ensues (or is it numerous facepalm moments?  sometimes I can't tell).  Either way, Kelly and Sam are a really good team, which makes this show fun to watch.

Kominsky Method

The show revolves around Sandy (Komisky) who was an actor who caught an incredible break and is revered by Hollywood, who is now trying to make ends meet by doing acting coaching.  He is joined by his friend, and agent, Norman and together they try to figure out what life is in their later years in life.

The show for me showcases just how hard it is to break into acting, and that no matter how old you are, you always have sh*t to figure out. Magical Answers to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything don't simply come with age.

In the final season, Norman dies (sorry, spoiler alert), so the final season is also about dealing with bereavement and what that looks like after a lifelong friend moves onto the great beyond. I enjoyed this series more than I thought I would.
