[Spoilers] Continuing on in my quest to watch sci-fi shows that I missed on their first run, today here are some quick thoughts on Invasion (2005). The show is available for free on Tubi for those who want to see it, and it was originally on ABC.

I guess this is one of those shows that was canceled a little bit before its time. It only had one season, and that season is very uneven in its pacing. I guess the writers were feeling the pressure to compete with other shows that were on at the same time, and I guess wanted to make it more action-packed than originally planned?

The premise of the show was that in the aftermath of a hurricane, some water-based creatures infiltrate a small Florida town and begin to take over the bodies of the town's inhabitants through a cloning process  - by first merging with, then replacing them.  We don't know where these organisms came from, and the people that were cloned also retained the memories of of the people they ate and cloned.  Most of the first season is a "what's happening?! why are people acting all weird? and how are they so good at healing from wounds" (spoiler, they are aliens). However, in the last five episodes of the series it seems like everyone is clued into the fact that some people are hybrids, setting up an "us versus them" dynamic. The military knows, the people know, everyone knows. Like...how did this happen?  Did I fall asleep and miss a season?!

Overall, it was an interesting show.  I wish it had a bit more space to breathe and develop, but who knows? maybe in 30 years it will be rebooted.
