Nokia Beta Labs has some pretty nifty things brewing (and sometimes they kill some of their most nifty things even though they are great - see Sports Tracker for example).

Their newest software is called Braille Reader which apparently runs in the background and processes SMS messages for bind users of S60 phones. It seems pretty innovative as it uses haptic feedback on touch screens to convert roman letters into braille text.

What I do wonder when viewing this short demo is how efficient this is. I think that for small text messages it would be OK, but it seems really slow. Perhaps in combination with a text-to-speech program it would work great. On the other hand I am not visually impaired to I can't fully evaluate the pros and cons of such a program. The concept does seem interesting though.
