Crowds in Salem...
Despite being in the middle of a pandemic, Reddit posts from people who want to visit still are plentiful, and there are queues to get into restaurants and attractions. This morning I got a lot of notifications from the official Salem app that attractions are fully booked for today as of 10am this morning. It makes me wonder what is wrong with people sometimes...
Devastation in Syria
It is really nuts to think that this is a man-made disaster. This drone aerial footage shows the devastation in just one Syrian city (Homs). It would be sad enough if this were the outcome of some sort of natural disaster, something like an earthquake, but to think that this is totally preventable and that fellow humans enacted such violence on other humans in our day and age is despicable.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes | Done (???)

A few weeks back I was debating what game to start next, games being the interactive equivalent of that TV show that you love to follow along with. I thought that it would be a good idea to get into Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes which I got for a cheap price last Christmas on xbox live (I think it was $7). I was simultaneously excited that Kiefer Sutherland (of 24 fame) would be voicing
Bioshock Infinite | Done
Monday, Sep 15 2014 17:30 | Bioshock, Entertainment, Games, SciFi, video games, VideoGames, WTF, XBOX
A couple of weekends ago I finished Bioshock Infinite (woot!). I had begun the game a little before I went off on summer vacation (so there was a big lag between when I started and when I finished), but it wasn't all that difficult to get back back in the groove once I got back from Greece. I have to say that the original Bioshock games left me with a sense of wonder whereas this game's
Last spring, in anticipation of buying a new Mac Mini, I decided to spend some money to get a new Magic Trackpad (awesome little device), a new wireless keyboard (which I have been using with my iPad, and Samsung Slate) and an external SuperDrive. The original intent, of course, was that I would use these with a new Mac Mini as soon as I got one. I was expecting that I would get one in the summer as
Think of the children!!!
Yesterday I decided to play a bit of Fable III so I can move the story along. I had gotten to the revolution part where I depose my evil older brother Logan...but I guess the joke was on me since Theresa (the spirit that came to my character and said I'd be a hero) had also advised him that the great darkness is coming to Albion. He could have been a benevolent rules but had a greater chance of being
GoWalla has jumped the shark...
Yesterday, while running some pre-thanksgiving errands, I decided to check in to my local bakery while waiting for my stuff.. Checked in with Foursquare, no problem; went into GoWalla (it still crashed on iOS5 mind you, but my iPhone is on iOS4 so it still works) an I couldn't find where and how to check in...WTH??? GoWalla has gone through several "upgrades" (let's call them upgrades...they seem more
Colbert on the Greek Economy
I saw this the other night when I got home after having seen it on Twitter (via @asteris).Honestly the situation seems like a major clusterfuck. It seems like a classic north south divide and the unfortunate (or just callous use of the PIGS acronym) is making things worse. -- Post From My iPhone
Television Blue Screen of Death!
OK! I will admit it! HD Television has spoiled me! Last night, those of you who follow me on twitter, would have seen my frustration as my cable provider (Comcast) and how none of the HD channels were working! No CBS, no NBC, no ABC and worst of all NO FOX! I was so prepped to watch 24 in widescreen HD glory (like I've done for the past season, or two) but when I switched inputs from computer to
I came across this inforgraphic last weekend through a contact on twitter (@titanas if I remember correctly). I have to say that I was really surprised at the production/consumption level. I assumed that since a lot of porn is made in the US, that the US would be chief consumer, however China, Japan and South Korea make up 76% of the world's total porn consumption (if revenues are any indication
Against non-latin domain names
Well, this past week Egypt launched the .masr domain name, but it's not just masr (Egypt in arabic), it's .مصر (masr in arabic script). Now many proponents or unicode domains would probably say that it democratizes the internet, making it less of an English centric place, however I really don't see it that way. Now luckily I can type in a couple of different scripts so something like .εργασία
Ooooo! New and shiny!
OK, every now and again I come across a story in my RSS feed that sounds completely and utterly ridiculous. Here's one of them "Is twitter replacing RSS readers?" which is a response to Robert Scoble's "why I don't use Google Reader anymore".Seriously? I think Scoble, in this post at least, is taking on the persona of cranky old man waving a cane at the young'ins. One of the crazy things mentioned
Do we need to explain what a browser is?
I know that this video is old (and I've probably posted it before) but here it is again: Random people asked what a Browser is:Now, I get that most laymen just click on the big blue "e" on their Windows PC, or have a friend that has forced them to use Firefox, but if you are using a tool, don't you want to know a little about it? I am not saying that you should know how stuff works inside your computer
I was waiting at the train station the other day when I saw the advertisement bellow. The text reads "America's most convenient bank. Maine to Florida"I don't know what language they are using, but I was under the impression that 'to' implied a continuum, including the exteremes and everything in between. The graphic clearly shows that it's NOT Maine to Florida because there are three states that
Windows Official Upgrade Chart
A number of years ago I had written a post about how ungodly complicated Microsoft's presentations seems to be in comparison with Steve Job's keynote addresses. This past week I came across (as did many others), the Windows 7 upgrade chart, official from Microsoft themselves. Now, a few years have passed since that last blog post on simplicity in presentations, and it appears that Microsoft has yet
Don't Copy that Floppy, Part Deux
I saw this video on Techdirt recently and I had a good laugh.I was not in the US when "don't copy that floppy" was around as an ad, but I do remember similar efforts in European (specifically Greek) computer magazines of the time. If I can find a magazine from that time period I will try to make a scanned copy of the ad (no pun intended). As Techdirt says:The "chorus" of the song claims that copying
Doubting the future of humanity...
There are times like these when I see commercials like the one bellow that make me have serious doubts for the future of humanity. I am also reminded of the movie Idiocracy.
Oh save us!
A number of years ago, when VHS tapes were still populating the video clubs, I was looking for a film with a taste of Greece. This is before I was able to find Greek films elsewhere. In any case, I was staring at this film called Ulysses' Gaze. Saw that it was made by a Greek director and that it had gotten some prize so I decided to rent it. What a horrible idea. The film is three hours long of

I saw this graphic the other day when I was browsing Danger's website. Now I would love to try a sidekick out, but there is no way to synchronize my PIM data on my mac with the Sidekick OS - mark/space used to provide a Missing Sync solution but they discontinued it when the Sidekick 3 came out.So browsing Danger's website, I was a bit happy to see the graphic depicted here because obviously that is

Wednesday, Nov 5 2008 06:44 | WTF
I've been lurking on LinkedIn, myspace and facebook on the weekends, and I can see some of my contacts' contacts have TONS of connections. OK, some people are more liberal with who they call a 'friend' than I, but I've noticed this thing called LION on linkedin.LION stands for LinkedIn Open Networker. In essence it's the social networks promiscuous user who will connect with anyone for any purpose.

Monday, May 28 2007 20:32 | WTF
Way back when, when I was trying to decide on what cellular service provider to choose, my two main concerns were coverage and ability to send SMS message abroad. I looked at Verizon, but they did not have text messages back then (from what I remember), I looked at sprint, but they could not send mobile email (aka SMS back then) to non sprint phones. I found a company called omnipoint - a GSM carrier,
CBS execs need to go back to B-School
Saturday, May 26 2007 10:40 | WTF
OK...After the Fox execs, come the CBS execs in the incoming class of B-school freshmen. Today I found out that Jericho is officially cancelled by CBS. What the hell do these television executives not get? Jericho was the best new drama on television (yes better than Drive!) and they cancel it! Of course there are the obligatory online petitions that people are signing in order to keep the show on
Annoying DVD ads!

I have not watched newer movies in a long time.I've been doing some catch up on the weekends on films that I missed during this, and last, semester.Back in the day, when DVDs were new, one of the features touted was that you did not have the 'coming attractions' at the beginning of the film, like you did with VHS tapes, thus you could watch the film you bought (or rented) right away. Well now it seems

Well this fubared my visual studio installation! The C# components
