Well, the end is here! The end of MobileMe, that is. Anyone visiting MobileMe will get a "closed for business" sign that seems all too familiar.

I started using .Mac around 2004-2005. Sure, I had an iTools account before (which I rarely used) , but later on I signed up for .Mac for one and only one reason: cheap web hosting! Back then it was cheaper to pay $99 per year for HTML hosting, and you got email, calendar, addressbook online, and you were able to sync your multiple devices (which was quit handy at the time!)

When .Mac became MobileMe I didn't like it. The service was the same (well, maybe a bit better) but I disliked the @me.com email. The back to my Mac feature was quite nice, but I rarely used it. The iDisk was probably the best and most used feature for me. Sure, it can't compare to Dropbox those days, but back then if you wanted online space for storage, that would sync between devices, iDisk was it! It was slow, and it corrupted my rapidweaver backups, but it worked. iCloud is here to replace MobileMe, but no iDisk. While my iCloud usage is about the same MobileMe, and i have long ago moved my howting to a php capable host, I will miss the iDisk functionality.

So, adieu MobileMe. It wa great knowing you.
