What's the reason to buy Instapaper?

I was browsing the AppStore the other day and I saw that Instapaper was cheaper than its normal priceMaybe if this were the original price I would have gone for Instapaper over ReadItLater ;-). In any case, I was in a temptation to buy it!  After all, Instapaper was my original "save for later reading" application on iOS, and I only changed to ReaditLater (now Pocket) because there was no free

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood | done!

This past weekend it happened, I completed the third installment of Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood!  I have to say that I played through this game trying to prolong my game play by taking on as many side missions as possible. I really did enjoy playing this game so much that I did not want it to end.  My plan of attack was to tackle side missions in-between the main memory

Attribution, in the open web

This past weekend I happened to see a post on twitter from a contact that I haven't seen in quite some time. This person is a photographer and earns a living from the photographs that she takes. It seemed to me that she was a bit annoyed that someone had used one of her photos on their blog, but had failed to give attribution.  My gut reaction to this was "how dare they!" When you borrow something

Professional Angst - the MLIS vs. the PhD

I haven't paid much attention to the library world in the past couple of weeks while I get acclimated to my new job, and while I've been playing around with various learning management systems (since we're moving from WebCT Vista to something else).  I came across a blog post in the ACRLog the other day but didn't have much of an opportunity to read it until now. Its title "Why all the fuss over

Automator for iOS

No, no, Automator does not exist for iOS yet - but it would be a nice feature!  I was thinking about this the other day.  My iPod Touch has WiFi, and I use it as an alarm of sorts. Since I keep the WiFi off, I don't have up to date information on weather, news, and RSS when I get up - a dashboard for the morning for example.  Of course I can use my iPhone (which is what I do) to get

This has been Finale Week (I guess with the end of the semester come and gone I now have more time for entertainment ;-) ) In any case I decided to make all of my season and series finale comments in one bigger post. Yes, it's filled with spoilers so don't read if you don't want things spoiled ;-)NCIS & NCIS: LAHonestly these two shows are like a soap opera, who cares about a season finale?

LOST Finale - a big bowl of M'eh

Because Comcast doesn't provide us poor souls on the basic (local only) plan with HD, I decided to wait a day and catch the LOST series finale on Hulu. I will do my best to not post any spoilers for those who have not seen it yet.Personally I had some high hopes of getting some answers about the island, but as my RSS reader pointed out LOST provided answers to some questions, and left others unanswered,

Open is not so open anymore

A while back there was a fascinating article titled "Open Isn't so Open Anymore". It lingered in my starred items folder for quite some time, but I finally was able to read it. I think the blog post does deserve a reading (or even a re-reading!)My two cents on the issue: In order to really have open education, we really do need some radicals to step up to the plate and take command of the field.

My Lazy American Students

An interesting article popped up on Inside Higher Ed today about the work ethic of American students (Original Boston.com article here). I would say that this is a gross overgeneralization based on anecdotal evidence. Now anecdotal evidence does serve a purpose, but I think that you are not comparing apples to apples. The United States for instance does not have a unified educational system (and

More Personal Brand Bullsh*t

Happy week-between-xmas-and-new-years everyone! I hope all is well, at work and at home (and for those of you awaiting your fall semester grades - good luck there as well!). OK, so here is is a comment I've been wanting to make on this story on the Brazen Careerist Network: 10 ways to get fired for building your personal brand. Now I've harped on and on about how I believe that this term (Personal
