Apple VideoPad II

Well, this piece of Apple history is going up for auction, it's not something I had even heard of prior to this week!  The Verge reported that an auction is taking place soon for a rare prototype of a tablet/communicator that Steve Jobs scrapped back in the 90s.  The Verge writes that:Developed between 1993 and 1995 with VideoPad 1 and 3 (the only two examples shown to the public),

Love notes to Newton

Now I wish I had known about this crowdfunding campaign a while back (I don't often visit indiegogo, but I do keep an eye out on kickstarter from time to time).  This is a documentary, that luckily was partially funded about one of the most awesome mobile platforms in computing history: the Apple Newton.    I can't wait for this to come out :-) Love Notes to Newton (Preview) from

Vintage Tech - Apple Newton

Ad from a computer magazine for the Newton 2100The Apple Newton is one of those devices that I had been keeping my eyes on for a while.  I wasn't sure when the original device was released - the original messagepad - but I know that it was out in the market when I came back from Greece.  While I was in Greece I couldn't really afford to spend money on computer magazines, as much as I wanted

Retro-Futuristic: The Newton smartwatch

Every now and again you see some retro-inspired futuristic gadgets.  I am not sure where I came across this, but here it is - the Apple Newton Watch - complete with mini stylus ;-)  I wonder what the specs for this thing are...

From the archive: the Apple iWalk

I love being reminded of rumors from yesteryear :-)  Back in the early 2000s there was a site called SpyMac which, as the name suggest, was a website that posted rumors about upcoming Apple products. I think that it also encouraged people to submit spyshots of new products, and hence potentially break their NDA.  The site no longer exists, but we still have some interesting fakes around

Apple IIgs OS 6.0.2!

Well, it's been a long time (22 years and counting to be more precise), but it seems that someone has patches the Apple IIgs OS, which reminds one of the original Mac System UI to System 6.0.2.  You can read more about  this update on A.P.P.L.E.'s website. As much as I loved the Apple IIgs OS, I am surprised that people still use it. Then again, I still have my Apple Newton 2100 and there

The Newton invades the iOS!!!

I've said this before, and I will say it again: the ingenuity of the Apple Newton community never ceases to amaze me! We've had the Einstein emulator for quite some time now on Windows and Mac (and some Linux-based PDAs), but not on the iPhone or any other iOS device. Now that is no longer an issue! Newton can run on iOS! There is of course the issue of slowness, but with a little optimization and

Wither the PDA?

I was reading this post yesterday on ProfHacker, and the author was asking where are the PDAs in today's smartphone world?  PDAs...you know!  Those pieces of technology from the mid-to-late 90s that were not connected to the internet and held information like your addressbook, calendar, notepad (and of course the games!). The author is contemplating getting an iPod Touch and a cheap, voice-only,

What is iPad?

Well, I don't know what an iPad is (just kidding) but this Ad surely reminds me of the 1990's era Apple Newton Ads that I've posted on this blog before. Surely it isn't just me thinking this, the web has been talking about it for the past week (yeah, I know, with school I don't have much time to be more prompt with these things ;-) ) Have a quick comparison between the new ad (iPad) and the old ad

My Newton beats your iPhone!

While I was focusing my free time on my studies these past couple of weeks, CNET found an opportunity to do another death match between two devices, this time the Apple Newton 2100 (the top of the line Newton, and the one that I happen to have), versus the iPhone 3GS (also a device that I have and use daily). The winner, according to CNET is the Newton. While I agree that the Newton is a great device,
